Photos: Sophie's accident

Those rumours are true, folks. The Daily Mail has papparazzi photos (this is one, so it's their copyright) of the night shoot where Sophie Webster is hit by a car. The difference is that Ryan does not seem to be the driver as earlier reported.

There is an argument and Ryan runs across the road. Sophie follows and pulls him out of the way of an oncoming car, getting knocked over herself. Maybe this will be Ryan's "hit bottom" and he'll start to rehabilitate himself.

Although the spoilers say that Sophie faces a life in a wheelchair, it's unlikely that will happen, long term. In a lifetime of soap-watching, I've never seen that happen yet.

The character, Sandy Richardson, in Crossroads was involved in a car crash which meant he had to use a wheelchair. The writers wanted him to recover until it was pointed out that full recovery would have been impossible. Consequently, the character remained in a wheelchair. Wouldn't stop Corrie writers these days!

On a sad note, Richard Tonge, the actor, developed Hodgkin's Disease which meant he used a wheelchair himself.

And the actor's circumstances probably ended up dictating the storyline in the long run.

Hope the accident renders Sophie speechless... :0

Chris Tate in Emmerdale ended up in a wheelchair after the plane crash and remained in it until the actor left the show.

Roger Tonge, not Richard.

On a related note, things have reached a very sad state of affairs when Crossroads in the 60s and 70s is more realistic than Corrie of today.

Oh...

...a car crash.

...Again.

Interesting.......

I sometimes wonder if the writers have a bag with little labels on and they pull one out at say, 9.15am, read it and announce: "serial killer in the street" or "character decides they're suddenly gay" or "explosion/fire at Underworld".

Then..."right, chaps, that's next month's storylines sorted out. Let's go down the pub!!! Trebles all round"

They can't honestly pretend they're being original, can they?

I am also becoming suspicious of some sort of word scramble game the writers must play, recycling storylines mindlessly, hoping we'll buy in. Honestly, it was a big deal to have Izzy as their first disabled actor and remarkably, she's in a wheelchair! Why would they put another actor on the Street into one, even short term? As if Ryan will care long term? Is he meant to bring her back from the lesbian side, now? Just as Maria is apparently meant to "turn" Marcus? Lame.

I think this is going to be fast forwarded on: Sofa with her terrible acting mumbling away, Kevin furrowing his monobrow and getting stroppy and shouting at Michelle and Steve, Sally sighing "oh Kevin" and we all know Sofa will be up and about again within days POINTLESS.

Sophie will be fine. Heck, she bounced off a church roof not so long since with nary a scratch, so being run over by a car will be just a stroll over to the Miracle World at Wethy General.

I hope they bring her to Weatherfield General. That place has more miracle cures than Lourdes.
