Watch: Samia Smith interview on Lorraine

Samia Smith, who plays Coronation Street's Maria Connor, was interviewed on ITV1's Lorraine show this morning.  For those in the UK who can watch the video, the link is below but for those overseas who can't view these videos online, here's a little round up of what Samia had to say.

She talked about the upcoming storyline with Chris dying from his brain tumour, dumping Maria and trying to get back to his ex-wife Cheryl.  The cast get the scripts one or two weeks in advance of filming and trust the writers to do what they want with the characters and they're pleasantly surprised, most of the time.  Samia tries to do all of her script learning at work so she can enjoy her home life but some cast members try to learn their lines at home the night before.

Samia confirmed that she's signed a new contract with Corrie for another 12 months and says there's some interesting, great storylines coming up for Maria.

You can watch Samia's interview online here.

I find this storyline a bit of a bore, but I cannot say anything further if it is of any help to those suffering with it, which the Corrie story may also help the families and friends of those suffering a brain tumour. Maybe it is because I enjoy watching Maria as always, but I have not found Chris to be an interesting actor to me. Maybe I would rather see him act as a murderer on Frost or something else like that even though, I do think I have seen him act in something else before.

Wasn't Chris Billie Piper's dad in Doctor WHo?

I find the whole Maria/Chris relationship as dull as dishwater. Good riddance..hopefully she'll hook up with Dr. C. but he'll probably have a sordid past too which is why he sacked Gail on the spot for snooping..she might have found something out about him that wasn't so nice. Maybe he was forced to quit his job because of an unappropriate relationship with a patient. Hmmm.

Chris was boring. Lots of boring people in real life who you meet down the pub so quite realistic in that respect. No place for him in a key story, though. I can't believe they've given Maria another year. She's pretty but such a drip!

Please don't replace Chris with another 'hard man'. Too many characters in Corrie as it is.

Seems as if the writers are using the brain tumor story as the reason Chris beat up Cheryl in the past.....however, why on earth would Maria want a relationship with Chris knowing his past with Cheryl and putting Liam in danger? The salon fumes must have gotten to her....she seems not too much brighter than Kirk.

'Maria' is a terrible actress, one of the worst i've ever seen, she mumbles incoherantly on the show and speaks double dutch, cant they find any 'actresses' that can act?

I think Maria is a good actress if you REALLY see her act. She doesn't act too well at present, and that obviously is down to the writers. These writers often seem to give strong storylines to certain people in the cast, but for some reason, poor Maria is often found to be given similar storylines year after year. The best acting from her I think, is with Liam and later on, with his mother. She HAS had some other good moments though, and I don't mind watching her with Audrey, but I just wish the writers would stop concentrating too much on other characters and emphasize Maria's character more, by giving her something REALLY gripping for us all to enjoy. In fact, something where we cannot all wait until the next episode arrives to find out what more adventures is going to happen with Maria. I hope the writers read these comments in this blog.
