Corrie's Peter and Leanne Walk the Line

Further to this post about songs reflecting scenes, how about that lovely bit of Johnny Cash we were just treated to? While Leanne was busy berating Peter because he had the audacity to talk to Carla (and after he'd made her a chilli, too!) Johnny Cash's song "I Walk the Line" was playing in the background.

The song is sometimes mistakenly said to have been written by Cash about his second wife June Carter, or even sometimes said to be by Carter about Cash - this I attribute to the film "Walk the Line" in which, frustrated by Cash's drunkenness, she throws empty bottles at him and his friends, telling them "Y'all don't walk no line!". In fact the song appears on Cash's first album Johnny Cash... With His Hot & Blue Guitar, and is written for and to his first wife Vivian Liberto, pledging his devotion to her while he was away on tour:

I find it very, very easy to be true
I find myself alone when each day is through
Yes, I'll admit I'm a fool for you
Because you're mine
I walk the line

Such a lovely song, and definitely a great scene setter for a domestic spat between what is one of my favourite Corrie couples.

It was a very good song to use. Also liked "Always a Woman To Me" when Marc and Audrey when chatting in the salon.

In the episode a couple of weeks ago when Stella revealed she was Leanne's mum to Peter, there was a scene where Becky and Steve were standing at opposite sides of the bar from each other, and Stella gave them both some advice.

The song playing then was Adele's "Someone like you" and as Becky was in focus, looking sad and forlorn, the rather apt lyrics were:

Nevermind, I'll find someone like you.
I wish nothing but the best, for you too.
Don't forget me, I beg, I remember you said:-
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead"

Kinda cool, huh?

I love watching Peter and Leanne, and his son (forgot his name - sorry). I hope they keep these three going for quite a long time, as I would hate to see the writers split themup for good or anything like that. However, talking about Johnny Cash, I was talking to someone called Mr, (that's right, MISTER as I don't know his first name) several months ago, and he (that's Mr I am on about), told me that he had just recently bought a Johnny Weissmuller tarzan... no sorry ha ha...a Johnny Cash CD called...Now what was it called again? o yes it's on the tip of my tongue my finger no, that's not it o yes... it was 'Johnny Cash Gospel Glory CD', and he said it was brilliant. Maybe, you might find this worthwhile for yourself?

Aye, the background music is very well chosen at times!

The pregnancy hormones might have something to do with it, but Leanne really is being unreasonable lately - poor Peter simply can't do right for doing wrong. He got the blame for Stella, he got blamed for Carla overhearing when Ken and Deirdre congratulated them, he gets the blame for everything. Funny how Leanne was the one who had an affair, yet Peter, who hasn't actually done anything wrong (yet) is still always treated like the bad guy of the relationship!

I dont think Leanne is being unreasonable at all. I know she had the affair but Carla was supposed to be her BEST FRIEND, then she finds she has been sneaking around behind her back trying to bed her man. Leanne obviously feels threatened by the beautiful businesswoman who wont take no for an answer where Peter is concerned, cant think why though why would she want a short tattooed alcoholic bigamist. Each to their own!

Oh, Leanne's insecurity is more than understandable, but the way she is acting on it does cross the line into unreasonable at times. Carla may deserve Leanne's anger for trying to seduce her fella, but Peter never laid a finger on her, very firmly refused all her advances, yet is still treated as if he has committed the worst betrayal in the world if he so much as says hello to her in passing. He completely forgave Leanne for her affair and hasn't held it against her, has shown no sign of not trusting her as a result of it - but she clearly doesn't trust him even though he hasn't done anything wrong, and that kind of attitude and imbalance could end up really undermining their marriage.

I agree, think Leanne is being a bit harpy about it!

Excellent choice of music however, what about using 'Light up the fire' for a funeral or as Blanche would have put it ... a good send off! Oh, I love a good funeral!

Wasnt it Cliff Richard who said you know you have made it when you hear your song playing in the background of a Corrie scene :O)

This is such a great song...I also love the version by the band 'Live' from a number of years ago.
