That London

What a fantastic little treat tonights episode was, so much drama packed into thirty minutes, was great seeing Violet, Jamie, Marcus and Todd back on Corrie.

I especially loved the London montage, as I worried that it would end up focusing too much on scenes in each location, but the montage did the trick.

These episodes left the doors wide open to quite a few returns, but seemed to close a door on Jamie Baldwin's future in the show. Corrie should definitely do more episodes like this, it makes the show and Weatherfield seem a little more realistic

I'd have liked it to have been an hour long. Loved the character interactions, and Rosie in particular. It's always a treat when Jonathan Harvey.

And I do wonder if they split Jamie and The Lovely Violet up just for a laugh, since they're blissfully together in real life?

That should have been "Jonathan Harvey writes". Too much Easter wine!

loved the montage would of like a little longer though the effects was good and unexpsected bring on Blackpool next sunday

Yeah, it would have benefited from a longer running time, I have a feeling Violet might return sometime this year

I agree, I hope we get a similar montage for Blackpool, I was worried the show was gonna focus too much on the sightseeing, but they did it really well with the montage

Agree with you Merseytart, deffo cud have done with an hour at least, a great episode; poigniant & funny, but all done a bit too quick. (oh and a slap for gail, she is a right miserable old witch these days!)

Violet looked fantastic - I loved her hair. Jamie looked hot with the darker hair and stubble. That little kid was so cute.
I wish that they would do more 'specials' like this too, it will be so much more believable now when the child arrives in on the Street in a few weeks.
Rosie is a brilliant character in the last year or so - such a pity that she is taking extended leave soon (at least we'll have the webcasts.

It looks like next Sunday's episode might be similar to this one, as only Barlow's are mentioned in the spoilers seen so far

I thought it was pretty poor overall (apart from the Gail/Eileen stuff).

The 'posh' character Jules was the victim of really basic stereotyping. Eg. he's middle-class so he wears his jumper on his shoulders; the lunch/dinner confusion etc.

They also made too much of 'London' itself....just cos Corrie is obviously rarely there, we see those landmarks day-in, day-out on telly. Hardly an event.

They were 200 miles away from where the show is based, might as well make a big thing of it. I thought the same of Jools at first, but he actually really liked Weatherfield and the people rather being snobby like Todd was

Sean, as a character, rarely gets to go to London, so he'd naturally gravitate towards the famous sights. Plus he's got to take his son out in a place he doesn't know - head for the tourist buses and the landmarks.

If EastEnders ever headed to Manchester, I'm sure there would be a lot of shots of the Town Hall, Urbis, Old Trafford, and the Commonwealth Games complex, with a bit of pootling down by Salford Quays.

I didn't really like this episode. The Weatherfield stuff was fine - Rosie was great! But the London part was meh for me. The montage felt a bit cliched, although I can see why they did it for the sake of time and pacing of the episode. My main problem with this epi was splitting Jamie and Violet up! I used to like them as characters and as a couple, and I like to think that they have been living their lives happily in London. Yes, I know young couples split up but this just felt like a convient plot device for Sean's new story.

I thought that Jamie and Violet had already broken up. Remember the storyline where Sean pretended to be Liz on Facebook to find out more about Dylan, one of the things VIolet told 'Liz' was that the two of them had broken up. A bit of a plot hole there.

Yes i thought Jamie and Violet had broken up too but then they could have split and reconciled once or more than we knew. I can accept that because couples often do get back together. She did say she'd been unhappy a long time.

I really liked the episodes and wasn't Marcus lovely, with his big romantic gesture that went unseen at the bus station!

Why are they always late with the flowers at bus/train stations...

I really enjoyed it, Lodon calling during the montage was fitting. I hope Violet comes back to the storylines. cheers

@ChrisM, a plot hole? On Corrie? HA HA HA HA

All the above about Rosie, Gail, Todd... Tonight, I fell for Sean again - not his usual drama queeny act (which I will now try to think of as a defense mechanism), but probably the nicest, most fun and most mature he's been in ages. And Marcus, mmmmm, he always brought out the best in everybody; can't wait for his return.

Chewy said...

Yeah, Sean acts all bubbly, but he's a sensitive guy, I hope he does get to see Dylan again

Sorry, I didnt think it was very good. For a start it should have been an hour long. It was great to see Marcus again, how cute was Dylan and I liked the posh boyfriend but when did Todd become such an arse, Violet and Jamie seemed contrived and hammily acted and the big teddy bear business was just stupid.

Embarassing rubbish. Worst episode for years.

Absolutely hated "Toddley" and his cartoon snobby boyfriend. But Eileen, as always, acted her part to perfection.

Surprisingly, I absolutely loved the second half, with the Sean and Marcus relationship treated with sensitivity and Sean, for once, turning his performance down several notches, and being so much better for it. But why, oh why couldn't Sean at least have glimpsed Marcus and his flowers - why do we always have to have these bitterweet endings these days, and so soon after Liz's sad departure. After that, I am actually looking forward to Marcus's full-time return.

Tvor said...

We have to have a bittersweet ending because it sets up the stage for Marcus coming back to Weatherfield. If Sean had seen him, he'd have got off the bus and stayed.

I do think the Easter Dinner at Eileen's was a bit silly. Surely as it was Easter, she'd have put on something a bit better. Slice of gammon or ham or even a chop or two?

Chewy said...

Frosty, it was actually first said to be an hour long, scheduling probably told them it had to be half an hour long, I think it would have benifitted from and extra half hour

Was great to see Violet and Jamie again. Even though Violet was so miserable Jamie was ultra fit! Anthony Cotton put in his best performance in years. So nice for him to actually have the opportunity to act human rather than a modern day bet lynch.

Is it just me, or did Vi do something to her face? She didn't look like regular ol'e Vi.

Nice to see Jamie though!

Wasn't it great to get away from the mania of Becky and the nastiness of Tracy and Kylie. The ridiculous stories of late like the bank robbery and whoo haa of Liz and Jim, the fake wedding, the wooden acting of Xin and now misery of Maria. Not to mention "colin Fishwick". It was like a breath of fresh air after so much plastic Corrie of late.
No, it wasn't typical Corrie, but very welcome after months and months of doom and gloom.

I for one love Sean, yes he's camp and plays his part in a very stereo typical manner, but he plays it very well and brings in much needed humour (where as I feel Rosie's humour is forced and unreal). His one liners are corkers at times and his timing is a treat. I notice they are using him more and more too even for the stronger serious stories on the street.

Carole, I agree with you, Violet did look a little 'different' I kept thinking the same, but couldn't put my finger on it.

Watched the episode on YouTube which was not done very well and hard to hear what they were saying, out of sync.....but did Sean say to Dylan when he went into the kitchen, Hi, it's Daddy?....I thought Violet was not acknowledging Sean as Dylan's father, so how would Dylan know? Violet's face looks a lot thinner than when she first appeared on Corrie.
