I love a good Corrie disaster, so I do. Today's fab photo comes from the 1965 collapse of No.7 Coronation Street.
There have been rumours in the past about the set of Coronation Street being moved to a new location but ITV has previously said it has decided to stay put at the old Quay Street location but now it seems to be coming closer to reality. Today's Guardian reports that ITV have been made an offer for the cost of rebuilding the set in Salford's new Media City UK site near Old Trafford. They'd be sharing the studios with the BBC in a brand, spanking new, high tech facility. The cost of moving was previously thought to be too high and the deal offered by the owners of the facility, Peel Group, wasn't worth the effort. Peel have now made a new offer and the talks are back on again. It won't happen until at least 2011 when the facility is due to open. It sounds like they'll demolish the old site. That's too bad, it would have been a great idea to open it again to the public as a tourist site!

Have just read the article, and it only mentions the outdoor sets, so would the indoor sets stay put? I hope they don't move, it would be really sad to see it demolished.
I think it would probably include the whole whack because it would be inconvenient to have indoor studios in one location and outdoor studios a few miles away.
They could make some money back by selling parts of the set. Baggsy the cladding from no. 9.
I'll have the Old Rectory sign!

The Quay Street site is worth MILLIONS as it is right in the heart of the city centre, beside the Spinningfields business area.
The sale of the site would easily pay for the entire move...
BUT, the Trafford Park site will be rented, not owned, as Quay Street is.
Advantages for Corrie: Larger site area for a bigger set and state of the art HD studios...
