It's the last of the Corrie Years tonight on ITV1 at 7.30pm. I've quite enjoyed these, has anyone else?
Tonight's episode is all about "how Coronation Street has moved with the times and held up a mirror to an ever-changing world" (their words, not mine!).
As strikes swept the UK in the 1970s, Ivy Tilsey took the factory girls “out” when Mike Baldwin refused to buy Hilda Ogden a new broom.
Meanwhile, in the 1990s, eco warriors like Swampy inspired Emily Bishop and her tousle-haired nephew Spider (Eileen Derbyshire and Martin Hancock, with Georgia Taylor as Toyah Battersby and David Neilson as Roy Cropper) to protest against the Red Rec development by spending a night 30ft up a tree.

For me, they have been a waste of time, as they invariably show exactly the same clips (just how many times has the "Ken-Deirdre-Mike fight at the front door" been shown, for heaven's sake?
There are so many, many wonderful scenes that have never been seen since they were originally transmitted, that I think it's a great pity that the people that compile these shows are so lazy and don't dig out some fresh clips.
It's a pity t'Faktry never changes with the times. They should have converted it to a Call Centre after the fire and then more of the streets male residents could work there.
Call Centre - brilliant idea, someone tell the writers at Corrie!! Perfect way to bring it up to the times and can you imagine the humour those ladies could bring to the screen?? Also great place to mix the cast up a bit with new employees. Wonderful idea!!!
Yep the faktry is just the same as it was in 1978. I did quite enjoy this but it was obviously filmed some time ago. Noticed that the lady producer (cant remember her name) said that Coronation Street was heart driven rather than issue driven, er that has all changed now under Mr Collinson!
There always has to be far too much talking betweeen these clips and extra clips could be shown in place of the talking.
I totally agree with John McE 3 august 2011 11:07 am. When Granada plus was shown on the TV playing all those classic Coronation Street episodes, that was great, and there were brilliant comical episodes (Percy Sugden played by Bill Waddington, Phyllis Pearce played by Jill Summers, and many others) that could have been shown on The Corrie Years. The moment I switched it on to watch, I felt I was completely bored but, I continued and was still bored at 8pm with it. I did not enjoy watching those news clips added in either which just spoilt Corrie. The best thing about it (apart from the end), was that the photography was much better than it is today.
An idea would be to show maybe three episodes from the archive on ITV 3 or 4 every day?
Good idea 'Coronation street Corner'. However, ITV 4 is a little boring compared to ITV 3 as ITV 4 don't have the plus one hour. They used to and it was much better and I wish they would bring it back. Therefore, if they did show the old Corries, then some people might miss them if they were shown on ITV 4 and not ITV 3. Do you get my drift?
I think three eps a day would be far too much for most people to keep up, but I certainly don't see what one of the extra ITV channels can't 'do a Granada' and start showing the series again from wayback (not necessarily from the beginning, but, say, from the mid-'70s) at a rate of one episode a day. That shouldn't be too much to keep up with.
Well I've just checked my sky box, and there is ITV +1 on ITV3 and ITV4. Could also screen old Emmerdale or Crossroads.
Genius idea to turn it into a call centre and how about throwing Julie Walters into the mix for a few weeks as the person who trains the staff?
Maybe a blog post would be a good idea to get everybody's opinion, and then Flaming Nora, Tvor or Sunny Jim or any of the bloggers could send an email to ITV's PTB if the idea's popular and ask whether it would be possible?
The powers that be at ITV take absolutely no notice of this blog ;-) and they do have their own research panels. I don't know how you join the research panel but it's they who ITV listen to regarding characters and stories.
Well that's a shame! Cos who better than Corrie's core fan base to say what fans want! You could try Phil Collinson I suppose! ;) haha
We need a factory shop open to the public which could be very intersting and cause a laugh!
Has Phil Collinson got a fan club? . . . I doubt not!
