I'm quizzing myself thinking what's the occasion, definitely mid-70's I'd say, I don't think it's anything to do with Stan and Hilda's second honeymoon, could be a wedding anniversary, was it 1943 they married?........could be thirtieth anniversary in 1973.
The year is 1971. The Ogdens are celebrating after Hilda won £500 on premium bonds. Earlier in the year Ken told them that Irma and David had been in a car crash, but when David died Dave Smith lent them money to fly over to Australia to bring Irma home. After this win on the premium bonds The Ogdens were able to pay back Dave Smith's loan. Hilda used the remaining £95 to buy a coffee percolator, a tray, a table centre, a cocktail bar and an electric toothbrush. She also threw a cocktail party, only to discover that Stan had drunk all the miniatures and filled the bottles with cold tea!. (I saw this photo on pinterest and it states its from 1971 so I think I'm right as there was nothing else they celebrated that year)
Plus Ken's hairstyle is very much how it was when Val died, which was 1971.
Thank you Barrie T. for clarifying the year. I didn't think it was post-1975 because that was when Bernard Youens had a stroke and in this photo he looks like he did 1964-1975.
Hilda was very glamorous wasn't she? I did at first think it was a shot of the actors, but it could possibly be part of the storyline.
Sorry to disagree but I thing the above theory is wrong. For starters, Ken isn't in the episodes where the Ogdens buy the cocktail bar and sup all the drinks.

Secondly, Hilda looks as glamorous as she does, and Stan as smart, because they are not in costume. That's Jean Alexander's own hairstyle and she and Bernard Youens are in their own clothes. Stan's suit was a standard brown affair with a plain shirt, not a blazer.
Now as to what the picture is about, I have to admit I haven't a clue. It's definitely from the early 1970s but it's not one from a studio recording session with the actors in costume. A specially posed shot for the press?
It is definately 1971 as the photo is on my uk newspaper websites. But it could be a TV Times magazine publicity photo for the upcoming storyline.
