Should Billy Walker make a Corrie comeback?

There is one character that I'd like to see make a return to the cobbles. And that is Billy Walker, the wayward son of former Rovers landlady Annie.  He last appeared in 1984 and I think it's time that he pays another visit to Weatherfield. I don't know about becoming a regular character but very much a guest appearance.

And I've come up with a scenario:

Nick finds out that a new wine bar has opened at the other side of town and goes to investigate. The new owner is Billy Walker, who's been running a bar in Jersey for nearly 30 years. Nick tells him that he's running a wine bar on Coronation Street. Billy is intrigued and comes to visit the competition. While visiting he bumps into Rita and Dennis. Billy is shocked to see Dennis back on the cobbles and both ask about their mothers. And thus we find out the fate of Annie. Billy also makes a comment that it's ironic that Rita has married the son of the woman her husband chased in the 60s.

Billy asks about Deirdre and Dennis puts his foot in it by stating that she's on her own as Ken is in Canada for a few months. Billy is interested and leaves the bistro and goes to No. 1. Deirdre is shocked to see her old flame and fiancée and they enjoy catching up. Unknown to her, Billy is on a quest to win her back.

As well as his story with Deirdre, Billy will also bring bad memories back for Emily. If you remember, Billy blackmailed Emily to get money she got after Ernie's murder. He threatened to tell everybody about Mike's affair with Deirdre but Mike stopped him. Billy tries to make amends with her but is thwarted by a suspecting Norris.

Billy takes an interest in Nick's bistro and wants to be involved. Nick refuses but Billy charms Audrey and reminisces about Alf and he tells Audrey to persuade Nick to make him a business partner.  Who knows if it'll work?

Or maybe he could be interested in the Rovers - reclaiming his parents' pub?

I'm getting carried away...

Maybe you've got other ideas? Would you like Billy back on the cobbles?

Who knows? Maybe TPTB at Corrie Towers will be reading this!

I haven't got strong feelings one way or the other about Billy Walker. However, the fact that we are looking at possible returning characters - Curly, Becky and others - suggests to me that we're so bored with some of the current storylines that we're inventing our own! Great idea - seriously. Let's have a blog inviting potential storylines to keep ourselves cheerful until Corrie gets over the summer slump.

The only reason I would want him back is because he is the son of Corrie's best ever character. Other than that, he isn't anything special. Maybe a 2 or 3 episode appearance wouldn't be bad idea (maybe he decides to open a posh wine bar in the viaduct where Terry was to open a strip club) and reminises with people (until after 2 episodes he is closed down or something). Who knows.

I would like if Joan came back though, she was very like her mother and I think it would be interesting if she came back from Derby and took a job in the Rovers. We find out she and her husband lost all their money in the property crash and she has to return to Weatherfield after her husband had a heart attack.

Is that Rene Bradshaw with Billy? My memory's not what is was and isn't she wearing Deirdres glasses?

Rosie, that's Deirdre. :P

I actually enjoyed reading your story line! I think it would be great! Cheers!

I'm not THAT senile,Llifon, it's Rene Bradshaw, isn't it?

No, that is definitely Deirdre!

It is Deirdre in 1984. Her hair's tied back so maybe that's why u think it's Renee?

That would be a fabulous story line. As a VERY old Corrie fan, it would be right up my alley!

Very cleverly worked out! And it would please long-time viewers - we love those links to the past! I would also like to see Linda Tanner Cheveski back for a visit to see her brother Dennis - or at least, a passing mention of her!

That is definitely Deirdre. Renee had much bigger hair.

I would love it if Joan Davies (Annie Walker's daughter) came back. She would be around retirement age now and I like the idea of her, having been widowed, returning to Weatherfield and taking over as the new Governor of Bessie Street School in Ken's absence. Perhaps Dennis and her could grow closer while talking about Coronation Street of old, much to Rita's irritation!

If Billy ever came back, how wonderful would it be if he returned with Bet Lynch as his new fiancée? The two of them having hooked up when Billy moved away from Jersey. The two of them both trying to get their hands on the Rovers and battling Stella would be brilliant. By the end of the year, after Billy and Bet marry, we could have Rita Tanner and Bet Walker on the same Street!

I stand corrected, and a little embarrassed.

Why not to all these storyline suggestions??? Anything's got to be a vast improvement than the weak swill being served up these days on Corrie!

why on earth would you want Billy Walker back? To do what exactly? Take up with Dreary where they left off 40 years go? He is now an elderly man and will always be Tom King from Emmerdale as far as I am concerned These strange "bring back" blogs always mystfy me.

It would be very surprising if the character of Joan Davies was revived. Joan only ever appeared in a grand total of 11 episodes, so I don't think there would be too many viewers clamouring for her return:) According to Corriepedia, the character would now be 73 years old. Interesting storyline suggestions though!!

It would be nice to see an old face and find out what became of Annie but unlike Dennis, there doesn't seem to be much to do with Billy other than retread old ground.

Its called having a bit of fun and speculating Frosty, no need to be grumpy. Why did Dennis continue from a "relationship" (which was barely anything) with Rita that goes way back about 50 years ago? Anything is possible in the world of soaps and storylines.

No we don't need Billy Walker back, I never liked his character. Your storyline sounds like fun, but I would prefer to see a completely new character come in to spice up Deidre's love life. Also if any body comes back I hope it's Curly or Spider or even Cilla!!
