Coronation Street Double Episode Review 10 September 2012
So Katie is eighteen today and there's a sapphire from sister Izzy and a surrogacy meeting to start the celebrations. But all is not going smoothly there and Izzy has decided not to go ahead.
Gloria is proving to be an interesting character. What is it she has against Rita? Is it that she fancies Dennis? Or is it that she envies Rita's ability to wear 'busy' outfits? As Gloria told Dennis that she liked his shirt, Rita was quick to point out that it was she, Rita who had bought it.You have to hand it to Gloria though as she informs Sean, Dennis and Rita that she has thrown the hotpots away because they're 'dull and boring'. Rita declares a fondness for the hotpots and a brilliant line from Gloria ensues - 'You are what you eat'. Previous to this of course, Gloria had already upset her daughter, Stella, by moving the pans, borrowing Stella's perfume and ruining the gift of an albeit half price spa day by shouting after the beleaguered Stella to see if they can do something with her hair. And that's not all. She then goes to ask Karl if he could spare a few hours to help in The Rovers. Not everyone's first choice of a mother. She even manages to secure a room at Nick and Leanne's. Not everyone's choice of Grandmother either. But as she says, she does her best to spread peace, joy and harmony...
Well, don't we all wish we were seated round Deidre's tea table? Stuffed marrow on the menu! And where is Ken? Well, according to his wife he's sulking upstairs despite Deirdre's wafting toast smells up the stairs. Marrons glaces too! Now you really are pushing the boat out Deidre. But there's something very odd about Ken's apparent total silence. Is it marrow overload that's keeping him silent or is there something more sinister?
Particularly touching is the relationship between Rita and Tina. Tina really is in need of a friend right now and at one point it looked as if even Rita was going to turn her back.Tina called out to Rita and thank goodness Rita responded. The relationship is convincing too. It seems as if each sees themselves in the other.

Gloria's eyes look evil. I just don't trust her, particularly with that nasty gob of hers.
Awww, Izzy and the gorgeous Gary almost had me in tears tonight. They're such a sweet couple and I'm always impressed with the two actors' performances. I have enjoyed watching them together ever since Izzy arrived on the street and I hope they can mend their relationship quickly. They are so well-suited for one another.
Too much to hope for that Ken has gone upstairs and carked it, I suppose?
Gary acting petulant and too immature to have a child of his own and Gloria just irritates me, this kind of character has been played before with Sylvia and how long suffering is Nick, has Simon who is not his child (nor Leannes) living with him, now the trouble making old granny that they didnt know existed a month ago is dumping herself on them in their flat. Sorry this character is just stupid insenstive and a nuisance!
I love Gloria so far, a real breath of fresh air in the stagnating Rovers back room! Tine, to use her own phrase, is doing my head in. I do hope that some powerful writing and some strong acting from TV Choice's Best Actress can redeem this story from Tina's perspective. For me it's a shame that Kirsty (A Bad Person) will probably have to leave whilst Tina (A Corrie Person) will probably stay. But I did love the bit between Rita and Tina - it's good that Rita is the only person Tina does listen to.
What's with Gary bawling like a baby...Izzy left meh mum...what..where did she go? Down the street to their own flat? Wasn't this done before? Izzy wanted to leave Gary after the miscarriage so he could find someone to have a kid with...like he's Joe stud or summat? I was hoping they'd kill this story-line but nope..gobby Tina (who has never had a child before) will think it's a good idea for her to be a surrogate so Tommeh can find his way out of debt. They are two total dumbasses I tell ya.
I was really surprised to see Maria visiting Kirsty and the baby and Kirsty being OK about it - surely Kirsty knows that Maria and Tyrone used to be engaged, and we all know how Kirsty reacts towards anyone from Tyrone's past??
