In defence of Peter and Carla

There were quite a few negative comments about Peter and Carla on this week's Weekly Awards posting. I'm sure there will be more to come over the next few weeks as we see this all unfold.

While I prefer Leanne and Peter, I really don't think this affair is as ill-conceived or cringeworthy as some people think. It's only my opinion of course, and you're all entitled to yours, but here's my take on it.

And for those of you that think it's even worse than the infamous Molvin pairing? You have short memories! ;)

Personally, I think the reason that people are upset is that they'd like Leanne to find some lasting happiness. We know she's had a checkered past, but being willing to take on someone else's child and provide a stable, loving home for him, as well as putting up with Peter's alcoholism, only for him to dump her for her former best friend, seems very cruel. And that is surely a tribute to how good an actress Jane Danson is, as I couldn't care less what happens to Peter.

Fair comment, John McE, but I'd like to make it clear that personally I'm not turned off Peter and Carla because of loyalty to Leanne. My complaint about the couple is based on the acting and the writing. Carla's character has been poorly drawn and, sorry, I just don't like Alison King much. Peter used to be so charismatic: it's evaporated. Yes, from a story line point of view it would be good if Leanne and Peter got back together but I'm rapidly losing interest.

Although i too, don't *like* the pairing, i think people are acting as though Leanne is a saint. Was she not having an affair this time last year? Not that that justifies another affair but come on, she's not mother teresa like some people are making out. And Peter and Carla are nothing like Molvin *shudder* I think they do have chemistry and are both very troubled, complex characters. I think the writing in parts have been a let down, the sudden change of heart in regards to sex was a shocker for me and i think Carla's first time after the rape should have been more sensitively done. I almost like them together but it's just destined to fail.

I don't have a problem but with them, I just don't understand peters sudden change in feelings toward Carla.

Unfortunately they have done what they do best at Corrie and ruined another good character - Peter. At one time you liked him for his flaws and that basically he was weak but a good guy. Now he comes across as a scruffy selfish obsessive skank. Let he and Carla go off together and drown in a VAT of red wine/vodka, I couldnt care tuppence, nor about the one expressioned daleked voiced bitch of the cobbles that just cant leave married men alone. Thank the Lord for the fast forward when this dire story is on.

I love them together! And as someone said Leanne is not a saint, she was busy with Nick and almost left Peter.

To be honest this is one of the best genuine love stories to permeate Modern soaps, love does not care for reason or for rationality but rather forces us to listen to our souls. These two make my heart warm, they personify real love with all it's challenges and criticisms. Us mere mortals can but hope to experience a taste of the divine. And as for Leanne should we in life let a sense of duty regulate our feelings? No life is too short, these may be fictional characters but the truth rings true, follow your heart. You only have one life please don't waste it worrying about duty and obligations

I have found myself desperately wanting Peter and Carla to get together. I actually believe they are soulmates and I've never felt as strongly about any other soap couple, as I do about them. Their relationship has led to me becoming a Corrie fanatic. I love the way their imperfections have drawn me in, as a viewer. Together, they are dangerous but beautiful at the same time.
