Salford writer Shelagh Delaney, who wrote A Taste of Honey, died yesterday of cancer at the age of 72. Nigel Pivaro, who played Terry Duckworth in Coronation Street, has written a tribute to the writer at the Salford Star.
Corrie creator Tony Warren said last night: "I knew her a little in the early days but not terribly well. I saw the original production of A Taste of Honey at Stratford East before I wrote Coronation Street. She was a massive talent. It's hard to put her into a category but she was a very important writer of her generation."
And Coronation Street writer Jonathan Harvey said on twitter: "So sad to hear of the death of one of me big writing heroes, Shelagh Delaney."

Without her, working class dramas wouldn't have been as palatable on British TV. Everyone reading this blog owes her a debt of gratitude.
Agree with the previous comment. What a power-house of talent Salford has proven to be over the years (and I say that as an admiring Mancunian).
