Is Peter Barlow bang out of order?

I'm a huge Peter Barlow fan, but my loyalty's been stretched to its limits by tonight's double Corrie.
What on EARTH is he playing at? Having just been raped, Carla is at her most vulnerable. Peter says he is "just being a mate", and offers her a massive, prolonged hug when round at her flat.
That MIGHT be fine if a) he wasn't a married man with a family, whose wife is obviously not comfortable with this "friendship" and b) Carla wasn't still in love with him. He is simply not in a position to offer the right kind of support to someone in Carla's vulnerable state.
My opinion? Unless he's really going to find the "bottle" - 'scuse pun - to start a full-on affair, he should cut the ties with Carla, stop messing with her head, and leave her alone to find more appropriate and reliable support. As things stand, he's only going to make things worse.
Anyone else got any views on this?

I actually don't think Peter wants a physical affair with Carla but gets a buzz out of an'affair of the mind'. You often see it in offices when pairs go out for a drink after work. Sex would kill the magic stone dead but the emotional intimacy gives at least one party a real thrill. In this case, Peter is getting huge satisfaction from Carla needing him. If I were Leanne, i'd be much more worried about a friendship like this than an affair which would blow out very quickly. Peter managed to have two wives at the same time so maybe he needs the danger.

I don't know what it is about Carla, but she's made no impact on me at all and I really couldn't care less what happens to her. Perhaps the storyline went to the wrong character.

I think you're right, he was inappropriate and probably as Humpty Dumpty said, he's got the buzz out of the "mind affair". Addicted to danger, if you ask me, replacing booze with the risk.

And yeah. a bit of a dog.

I can't stand Mrs Leanne, who obviously couldnt go a foot wrong in this life, despite being a coke addict, home wrecker and prostitute. Give them happy storylines, fed up with all the misery. How long do we have to go through Leanne's face looking like a slapped backside.

Men love to be loved; that's the only reason he can't give Carla up. That and is history of bigamy, he likes to avoid making difficult decisions whenever he can.

I agree with you anonymous, about Leanne/face like slapped backside - Jane Danson does that look really well! I don't have much sympathy for her either to be honest.

Once you've had two wives, you can't go back. It's double trouble and double strife for double the shillings.

It must be written in indelible ink on Peter's character description for him to visit Carla once a week. From the get go, I never understood him getting away with acting as an AA sponsor for Carla, when she obviously had the hots for him. That's just so against the spirit of the unwritten rules of that organization. He should have been called on that long ago by an AA mate. I know it's just a soap, but some realism about recovery for alcoholics wouldn't go amiss.

And now this. What decade is he living in? He's one selfish dude. And I like the character! He needs a reality check, as well as the writers.

This Peter keep "turning up" at Carlas is really getting on my nerves and how inappropriate was it yesterday when he went to go, when he should have left, and took his jacket off and ended up with her in his arms stroking her. I dont like the character of Carla but no wonder her head is all over the place. I didnt think I would say this as I am a big Chris G fan but I am sick of Peter, he is just being totally stupid and thinking with the thing that is not his brain.

Though I can understand where some of you are coming from, it is the sainted Leanne whom I believe to be out of order much moreso than Peter. J.D. is one of the show's most believable actresses, but I rarely find her character to be likeable, and her response to current events is a good illustration as to why.

I find it pretty scandalous that she feels that Peter should prioritise the allaying of her misconceptions, over helping out a mutual friend who's after being raped and is in danger of doing away with herself. I can understand her insecurities, but my lord, I wish that she'd not be so obtuse and self-important.

Yes, Leanne gets right on my wick as well. I don't much like the character and can't stand her whiny mum Stella either. But Peter needs to either P or get off the proverbial imo.

Peter's behaviour strains credibility to breaking point. He's simply allowing Carla to replace one psychological addiction (for booze) with another (him). I too am a great Peter Barlow fan, but also I find Leanne, with all her flaws and past mistakes, a much more sympathetic character than the self-distructive Carla. No real life relationship ever ran smoothly on this "well, I had an affair, so I can't object to him doing it" philosophy. That's what the head might say (Leanne said the other night that, if Peter had anything to confess, she might be able to forgive him as he forgave her) but the heart says otherwise. After all, this is the Peter, in the early days of their relationship, who discharged himself from rehab to go off with some slapper on a boat. Leanne does have reasons for her trust issues, and, let's face it, Peter and Carla have been lying to her, whatever their reasons.
Have to say though that I'm getting REALLY fed up of the writers' handling of Peter. How can anyone ALWAYS be just walking past at the right/wrong moment?

Leanne's scrunched-up PO'ed face is a bit wearing but guess I would have that face as well if my hubby ran over to console a 'friend' every five minutes. Peter does have chemistry with Carla and I'm 50/50 as to whom he should be with.

Well...I think Leanne has a lot of cheek considering when she was a prostitute she was found locked in the trunk of Carla's husband Paul Conner's car when her husband was killed in the car accident. It's not like Leanne is pure as the driven snow is it.
I like Carla. I think Allison King is a wonderful actress. Leanne's character is slowing getting on my nerves. She can have affairs and cheat on Peter but acts like a psycho. Sorry but she's annoying as hell.

It kind of feels like they're trying to make Leanne out to be the bad guy. Before the tram crash, when Leanne was (ugh) carrying on with Nick, Peter was just too saintly and patient. This is the same bloke who punched Nick out before, after all, and suddenly his fiery temper was gone so that Leanne's betrayal looked that much worse.

I like that Peter is sympathetic and supportive of Carla. He's obviously sweet and tender with her, and how is that wrong?

Leanne IS getting on my last nerve. Why doesn't "soap law" EVER bite her in the butt?
