Church backlash to Sian and Sophie's relationship coming up

Sophie and Sian are in for more heartbreak in November. The Sun reports that once the teens return home (you didn't think they were gone for good, did you?), the pastor at their church finds out about their relationship. He's not best pleased and lectures them with the standard church doctrine of "unnatural". Sian and Sophie argue that everyone is equal in God's eyes and whatever it says in the Bible, they're sure that God would admit his mistake. Even Emily Bishop can't disagree with the pastor though she's a lot more likely to be understanding but her opinion still stings the girls.

Will the pressure split up the girls? Will Sophie turn her back on the church? Will Sophie pretend to be something she's not? My guesses are yes, yes and no. I hope Sophie stays true to herself and I've always felt that Sian really isn't gay at heart. As for the church, maybe Sophie will find a church that does accept her. Whatever happens, it is sure to be handled well. This really is the kind of thing that happens to gay couples and other couples that don't fit the standard mold. Just look at the opposition Roy and Hayley have had to deal with for all these years and how people still make jokes about Hayley behind her back.

i got a friend who is very much a christian and involved with the church, when i told her bout me, she said, god loves us no matter wot or who we are, if corrie spilts them up over 1 mans word and wot he thinks, it will b a real shame. I was sophie id find another church, i wouldnt give up that sian for no one.!!!

I agre with the copmments below. It would be a eal shame if the producers/writers ended this relationship story by using the excuse of the church. Whilst it could be argued that they are both young etc etc, they have already demonstrated more maturity than most people their age. i think the way this story has developed is very realistic, and natural and now that Corrie has taken this step it should continue to be brave and not fall into the stereotypical approach most programmes fall into. This shouldnt be a quick hit to get viewers, it should keep developing and who knows..it may change people's perspectives for the better.

I hope it doesn't split them up. I love their story, it is soo well played and looks real. Although im not gay and carn't sympathize with them it gives you a view what they are going through

well im 16, gay and my girlfriend is a christian and the church accepts her and so does everyone else so it'll be a shame to split them over this as there a cute couple <3

It's be a shame to have an anti-Christian storyline like this, when we all know how Islam treats women and young girls. FGM on prime time TV? How about Muslims burning poppies in 'the street' on remembrance day? I mean, if you want to deal with topics of the day ...

They're not going to split up any time soon. I think that the next major storyline between them will be whether to have sex. Wasn't the chastity vow supposed to be 'until they get married'? If Sophie really is sure that she isn't straight, then traditional marriage isn't something she's going to do. So either her and Sian stick together for a couple of years and then have some kind of ceremony when they're 18, or they have a ceremony between themselves, and have sex. Right now, they're still just kids. Sure Sian has had sex with Ryan, but she's still pretty innocent as is Sophie. I like how the writers are treating their relationship, but within a year the pressure will be on, just by virtue of them growing up. It's easy to make a chastity vow when your hormones aren't in full gear; let's see how Sophie (and Sian) hold up under the pressure of that chastity vow when their hormones are raging.

i dont think they will break up you can see they are just to much in love and hopefully be like that for a long, long time.the next big storyline for them both is when sacha comes back after 11 february 2011. i really, really hope sophie doesn't die after the fall. i think this whole thing with her falling will bring her (sophie) and sian closer and more in love which i hope none of you belive that shes not going to survive because when you think about it the writers can't kill her off i mean this storyline has been going on for only a year it has to last much, much longer hopefully the writers aren't thinking of doing that i don't think they will.
this fall will bring them closer to each other and make them more happier and will make people see that there is nothing wrong with this amazing couple i think they make the best couple i have ever seen on any soap. they are the only reason i watch coronation street they make it funny and come on they are both sooo amazingly pretty, cute, fit and everything else im sure this storyline has helped many people deal with their own problems with being homosexuall also this has probably stop a bit of homophbic sterotyping because it shows all those people with problems with homosexuall couples that they aren't diffrent than any straight couple and it shows what sterotyping and homophobia can do but it shows them growing and becoming much stronger with all the problems that get thrown their way all i can say is they are both amazing actresses and also they are who i look up to they are an inspiration to everyone not just gay/lesbians but straight couples cause they show us all that if you love someone if it be a male female or the same sex it doesn't matter as long as you are happy and is truely in love that nobody else matters just the person you love and after all the problems they may have throughout 2011 i hope they stay together and live a happily ever after and just become stronger and more in love which i have already stated. i love them and i think many more people like them too how can you not love them??? <3 <3
