Coronation Street Producer Phil Collinson was on This Morning, er, this afternoon, to answer questions about what's going to be happening in Corrie's 50th anniversary year. I only caught the end but he revealed that the viaduct is going to collapse and the street will be hit by a tram.If this sounds familiar then cast your mind back to 1967 when a train came off the viaduct (my earliest Corrie memory as it happens) resulting in the death of minor character, Sonia Peters. This time round however, it's likely to be used as an opportunity for a more major cull of characters.

Is that the end of Molly then?
He said some well loved characters will go - why? - and he also said there would be no guest appearances from older characters - why?
If if workd ,which it does brilliantly, don't mess about with it.
Interesting that he should say there will be no return of old characters as they wish to look forward and not back and then he announces that they are rehashing a storyline from 43 years ago.
The viaduct is near the corner shop and who works in the corner shop?
It is a little far-fetched to suggest that a viaduct recently used for tram use would collapse of its own accord. There would be all sorts of structural test before the line was laid.

Another big build up like the hostage taking in the factory and the fire which will end up another let down you mark my words. Phil Collison has been a let down so far IMO.
But isn't the viaduct closed and includes the factory where the girls work? Probably Jack and Molly will be killed. The Peacocks at No. 13 AS well. Life threatning injuries possibly Dev, Rita and Norris?
David Cameroon, Kim Crowther made those stories and bigged them up, Phil's proper episodes havent even been on screen yet
This will most definately be a show changer, Phil said EVERY character will be in these episodes, and it will center around the street as a community
Also, when asked about the future of Tina, Graeme and David, Phil said, dont believe the newspapers, indicating that the story isnt true

Chewy, i'm glad to know that there's a possibility of the rape storyline being untrue. I hope so, anyway. But would the producer say that just to throw people off the scent?
Yes, Sunny Jim.... been there, done that. I can see how it could happen though. The viaduct might have been checked for structural solidity but is it checked frequently? What if a car crashed into it (like Don Brennan's)?
Brick viaducts only collapse in a dramatic fashion during construction - they are too solidly built. That doesnt mean a train cant derail and come off the side of course...
Watching the 1967 episode, I never understand where the tram ened up. Where is the photo at?

Also, to say its a rehash, many of Corrie's viewers will not have seen the older one

Thought he contradicted himself by saying he hates how the press release spoilers months in advance, yet he does exactly that by revealing the 50th anniversary storyline! Coh!
So, it's in the newspapers and all over the 'net - They're going to kill off several characters in one go. Death by tram (trampled to death?)
In the street that I live in (the past 15 years), virtually every household has changed ownership. I know what you're thinking - was it an aeroplane crash that was responsible like in Emmerdale?

Strange, huh?
Here's the answer: They all left for a variety of different reasons. Reasons that elude the imagination of the producers of all soaps who no matter what the soap, can only think of one thing when a large cast change is decided upon - a disaster striking!
Coronation Street must officially be the most dangerous Street in the UK to live (die) in! Move in to that street (or any soap street)and sooner or later you, or your neighbour will meet a grisly end.
