Robert Vaughn to appear in Coronation Street

The latest in celebrity casting to hit the cobbles comes from ITV.com who reveal today that veteran actor, Robert Vaughn, is to appear in Coronation Street.

You know that cruise that Sylvia has won? Seems she's going to meet a gentleman called Milton on the cruise and he arrives in Weatherfield to find her. According to ITV this will set the "cat among the pigeons". We've not heard if actor Stephanie Cole is leaving or if her tenure at the cafe was only temporary so we don't know if this leads to her departure or if she'll be embroiled in a romantic entanglement.

What I'd like to see is Dennis Tanner finding himself suddenly jealous over the attentions paid to Sylvia. I've noticed a few little sparks of friendship between them even though Dennis is living with Rita and they've become quite comfortable companions. Is it more than that? I'm sure Dennis is fond of Reet but perhaps he'll realise Syl is more his type.

Any storyline with the veteran actors is great in my books and I'd much rather see an actor like Vaughn getting a cameo than one of the many tabloid celebs that say they want to be in Corrie just so they can get their name in the papers.

Robert Vaughn is well known for his iconic role as Napoleon Solo in The Man From U.N.C.L.E in addition to his many other television and film roles. His IMDB entry is here.

I wish he would be able to play his character from Hustle, but it is BBC.

This at least sounds like something that could be (hopefully!) a bit humourous, a change from the drone of Carla/Frank/Peter and Cheryl/Chris that we're seeing right now.
I'd like to see a spin-off with Sylvia and Mary on the cruise ship!!

Super! I think Sylvia could get conned by Robert, with lots of humour, without the Beeb getting too upset. It could at least be hinted at. Looking forward to this!

Yep suave sophisticated and wordly and that he would fancy someone like Sylvia who looks like someones grumpty 80 year old granny is not believeable I am afraid and PLEASE maria muggins, no more con artists.

Its pretty obvious that Milton is going to think Sylvia is a rich widow with a chain of restaurants.

Oh I agree about the con-man theme, enough already!
Yes, given Sylvia's penchant for guise, I'd say the 'chain' claim would be a safe bet and a too obvious one at that!

WOW is right, Robert Vaughn indeed! Sylvia has to stay on the street, she is a brilliant addition and the writers need to get her with Dennis, at least to give Dennis more screen time...maybe Dennis will recognize Robert Vaughn being a con-artist and save Sylvia.

Frosty - I'm maggie muggins, not marla muggins. If I recall, Robert played the con-man in Hustle with a huge dose of humour. I agree though, that Stephanie Cole plays Sylvia as much older, while Robert appears a bit younger & waay less grumpy. He's actually 2 years older than her in real life.

Probably a lot of people will make this point. IMDb says Stephanie Cole is 70 and Robert Vaughn is 79 later this month. He's pretty hot for a man nearly 80! I guess Sylvia is meant to be mid-70's.

I was just a little bit in love with Napoleon Solo so I'm looking forward to this one!

Wonder if Mary will 'fight' Sylvia for him - part of the prize she's missed out on, surely?
