Sharon Bentley (nee Gaskell) has returned to Coronation Street. After a 22 year hiatus, this is a character I’m very glad to see a reprisal of. It’s also been a long time since we’ve seen Rita behind that counter, so it’s a double bubble treat tonight! Funny how Rita recognised her before the mask came off, but hey, we can forgive that I think. It’s soon made clear that Sharon was the one who nominated Rita for the genuine Golden Heart Award and her foster daughter seems to be waving the white flag, looking to redeem their past fractious relationship. Recovering from cancer, Sharon is seeking repentance and compassion, which Rita soon gives her. Over a drink in the Rovers, Sharon fills Rita in on her past and asks about Coronation Street residents of old. Jenny is quick to rush back to the pub and collars Sharon over how she once treated Rita. Suspecting something duplicitous, Jenny tells Gemma that they have to protect Rita from any wrongdoing. Later, Jenny and Gemma confront Sharon and give her some grief. Sharon departs but not before writing Rita a cheque for £10K. Upon receiving it, Rita is quick to defend her former foster daughter.
Meanwhile, current Kabin owners Brian and Cathy remain apart. Cathy is still at Yasmeen’s and hasn’t even left that street so I’m unsure as to how that would stop any further trolling, however, that’s where we are. Yasmeen and Elaine try and fail to convince Cathy to go home, becoming concerned that she’s started to go overboard hoarding spores of online shopping. Brian is blind as always, telling Cathy to take all the time she needs.
Threatened by Maria, Tyrone has finally mustered enough courage to tell Fiz the truth about him and Alina. They are ‘for keeps’ which kinda suggests Tyrone’s current mentality here, and he’s also booked a night away. However, before that can happen, Emma confuses the situation further by telling Fiz that Alina is now seeing Lucas, and Fiz finds out about the hotel night away. With Tyrone hiding away on a breakdown, Kevin offers Fiz some delicate advice, and Chez also comforts his sister. However, with her wires suitably crossed, and in a rage, Fiz heads to the factory and finds Alina outside with Lucas. Confronting them both, Fiz soon realises the uncomfortable truth. Tyrone returns at that exact point, and he just can’t hide any longer. Round at N0.9 Fiz finally faces fact and Tyrone tells her he loves Alina. Over a heart-to-heart, the couple concludes that the relationship is over. Hope overhears her parents heartbreak and her heartache is visible. Meanwhile, Alina expresses her guilt to Emma, and Maria is quick to have a go as well. Maria’s audacity is astounding but not unexpected! It’s not all bad though, as Fiz calls out Maria for keeping it all a secret. Later, Tyrone takes Alina to Knutsford and it looks like he’s moving into the salon flat!
Now that Gary is free, he’s returned to the street and made himself comfortable by stopping over at Tim and Sally’s. After speaking to Izzy over facetime, Gary is reminded of his real responsibilities and visits Faye in jail telling her to not split from Craig. Later, Faye calls Craig and tells him to take the promotion, calling the relationship off - at least whilst she’s in jail. Seeing an opportunity, Craig decides to write to Faye using Kirk as a go-between.
Elsewhere in tonight’s episodes; Seb and Nina’s first date was a success and Seb is smitten. Abi gives her son some cheeky banter whilst Roy is a legend, telling Nina that Seb can stopover for the night. It looks like these two are in for the long haul!
One relationship over and a new one begins.

Gag moment coming up in episode when Ty and Alina are heading off to the hotel. She says she forgot her pajamas. He says 'Ya won't be needin' them."

I hope Sharon doesn’t hang around too long. I found her voice really grating, it sounds like she’s smoking 100 a day.
In our household we've really been enjoying Corrie on the whole for a long spell now, including the Baileys and the troll plot. In a non-Covid world, no doubt both plots would have played out differently i.e Aggie being central to the 'who's the daddy' story and Cathy leaving the street entirely for now. Alas, Corrie has done a fantastic job overall given the restrictions they have faced.
Yes,there have been some weeks which aren't as enjoyable as others and that's down to which characters are in focus in that particular week.
The writers in a given week are also paramount of course. A great writer who really 'gets' the DNA of Corrie always adds sparkle that can lift an otherwise mundane scene.
Last night was a case in point; whenever I see Simon Crowther's name, I know the episode is going to sparkle with subtle references, woven-humour and great Characterisation.
Similarly you know Chris Fewtrell and Damon Rochefort always deliver. As for the newer writers, a guy who I think is called Alistair seems to be a great addition.
Controversially perhaps but we're not particularly a fan of Johnathan Harvey as his scripts seem too try-hard rather than subtle. Plus too many references to popular culture.

Good episode. I like the Nina and Seb pairing. Tyrone's unlikely love triangle is getting boring and will probably drag on for months, ending with Alina falling for someone younger and Fiz not taking Tyrone back. Awful storyline. What were the writers thinking?

Why on earth would Gary stay at Tim and Sally's?Why couldn't he stay at Izzy's with their son Jake?
I really like the pairing of Seb and Nina. However, I fear this is a short term thing until she goes back with Asha (a pairing I did not like). To me, Nina and Asha are better as friends and they don't really have that much in common to warrant a relationship whereas Nina and Seb seem more similar. Please don't break these 2 up
This whole story with Ty and Alina is so disappointing. Fiz and Tyrone were the one couple I thought were stable and settled. But this is soap right?
I can only hope that the infatuation wears off for both of them soon and Tyrone comes to his senses.
Especially when he realizes he's now a single parent.
I can only imagine what Evelyn will say about all of this when she (hopefully soon) returns.
Never mind all that - what about Tim and Gary lounging around in their bath-robes! I want to know if the cornflower blue polka-dot number on Gary is his own, or borrowed from Sally! Inquiring minds need to know.
I can't help but wonder if Tyrone were to move in with Alina, with Ruby, Evelyn & the dog in tow. Bet the bloom would be off the rose pretty quick. LOL.
I must be the only person who thinks Tyrone should've kicked Fizz into touch years ago. Awful fishwife of a woman, he's better off alone than with her. Because as sure as eggs is eggs, him and Alina won't last.

Surely Gary had borrowed Sally's bathrobe. I could have done without him and Tim sitting with legs akimbo!
I suppose Gary does count as family. Adoptive brother to Faye who is Tim's daughter. Good point about Izzy.

I'd like to know what happened to Cathy's house and her hoarding too.
I suspect it was an idea that cropped in a scriptwriters/ production meeting. They liked it, went with it and then didn't know how to resolved it.
That reminds me - we haven't seen the allotment for a long while either. I thought it'd be the perfect place for outdoor filming.
It's nice to see Rita back this week but she seems to have lost weight. That pink jacket was hanging off her frame.
I completely agree with you on this. Seb & Nina need to stay together. Asha has become extremely annoying but I liked the friendship that she had formed with Nina. The relationship, not so much.
