ITV today is bringing us the news that the next actor to leave Corrie is Hayley Tamaddon who plays Andrea Beckett. Hayley has been in the Street for two years after initially only expecting to be on screen for three months. Her exit storyline is expected to be tied in to the story leading up to the live episode in September. Her exit will be left open in case she ever wants to return.
Hayley says "I will be so sad to leave, I have had the best two years of my
life here. It really is one big family. Everyone looks out for each
other and I’ve made some incredible friends."
Stuart Blackburn added "Hayley has brought real magic to the Corrie cobbles - funny, energetic,
totally professional and a joy to be around as a friend and colleague
alike, she'll be sorely missed and I'd simply like to wish her all the
very best for the future.”
While there have been a lot of our readers that haven't enjoyed Andrea on the show, I think she's always been a breath of fresh air. It does seem, though, since her main storyline ended with the exit of Andrea's ex-husband, Neil, and later with Craig Charles' absence from the show last fall, Andrea has been under used and they've not really known what to do with her.
We at Blog Towers wish Hayley Tamaddon all the very best!

I doubt I'll be the only one glad to see the back of this character.
If I've got the sequence of events right, Hayley was in 'Dancing on Ice' about the same time as her first appearances on Corrie. As a result, Andrea became a semi-regular. I felt that she was originally brought into split Steve and Michelle up, and then the writers changed their minds. She wasn't a well-thought out character and that seems to be the way Corrie is going atm. It's like the Tesco motto of 'pile them high and sell them cheap' ie bring in a load of characters, give them a bit of a storyline and see if it works. Andrea became a casualty of that approach. Writers beware, look what's happening to Tesco's now. Anyway, good luck to Hayley.
There are a lot of commenters that don't like her but we can all be kind, right? She's a decent actress doing what the writers and directors ask of her.
Hayley was on Dancing on Ice and that affected the number of the character's appearances. Tptb have to deal with actors being in more than one thing at a time. The character of Andrea was not well thought out but that wasn't Hayley's fault.
She's never worked for me and I won't miss her. Her and Lloyd were never suited.
Another sign that they're running around like headless chickens behind-the-scenes. It's getting to be like Hollyoaks, with no cast members lasting more than five minutes.
I liked her in dancing on ice but i cant stand the character of andrea. I agree with humpty she wasnt a well thought out character & her happy grinning persona grated on me. Another one of of stuart blackburns friends that he brought in that did t work.
What exactly is happening with this 'Curse of Lloyd"?
Everyone he interacts with ends up leaving or being written out...
Anyone would think that the writers have absolutely no idea what to write for him.....
I do agree that I don't think she and Lloyd were all that suited. I would have liked to have seen she and Steve get together and oust Michelle. They'd have got on a lot better I think.
Although I'm not surprised that she is leaving,as in the case with other departing actors,I think Hayley became a victim of the 'Platt Syndrome'as the writers seem to think that almost every storyline has to revolve around this one family and everyone else gets left behind.
I agree with Tvor's comments that she and Steve could've made a nicer couple than him and Michelle as she seemed genuinely concerned that something was wrong with Steve before he was diagnosed with depression while Michelle made it all about her.
Um, 'brought magic to the cobbles'......SB must have been in a coma during her time on the street! Kept on WAY too long and a pointless character...never gelled with Lloyd. Initial scenes not too bad, but then she morphed into a perpetual grinning nitwit popping up inappropriately here and there. Good luck to the actress and good riddance to the character. Ah, Lloyd has been saved.
I also liked Andrea and think tptb really ruined the character for all those who can't wait for her to be gone. I also really like Haley and wish her all the best.
I remember when she first came on and there was a lot of favorable posts about her. She was lively and a bright new face on the street. At that time I guess we were thinking she was going to be paired with Steve and that was great. Then, the writers did a turn around and it all went South. The whole Neil story turned me off the way it was handled. Then she just sort of became useless after Lloyd left for awhile. They were sticking her in scenes that really didn't make sense. Of course this is all down to Blackburn, who seems to produce these storylines on the fly. I feel bad for the actors who get lost in the sauce on this show.
Personally I'd take 10 Andreas over 1 Callum or 1 Bethany ANY day.
I really do think she would have worked wonderfully with Steve. I liked her so will be sad to see her go.
I started watching Corrie in January if 2013, since then more than two dozen actors have left the show. Unbelievable!
Andrea isn't my favourite character, but I like her a lot better than a number of other people currently on the show. She works well as a background character, and I must be one of the few who actually think she and Lloyd work well together.
I can't go so far as to say I'll miss her, but I'm not celebrating her departure either.
Actually, something I will miss - her constant sincere optimism. With Julie leaving as well, that quality will be missed.
Yet another character that they didn't know what to do with since she wasn't involved in either a Platt or Windass storyline. Ugh. I think if I were an actor getting a call about a part on here, I'd be tempted to say no. This is happening too often!
I'm not a fan , and I too think they ended up shoving her into scenes for no apparent reason . I couldn't imagine her with Steve either and Im glad they realised that mistake . Unfortunately they passed her on to Lloyd who she didn't gel with . It was as if she was trying too hard in each scene. Hayley is obviously a very bubbly enthusiastic person who needs a different stage for her talents . I wish her well but I will be glad to see the back of Andrea . Hard to think how they can successfully pair Lloyd with someone as he seems unlucky in love . I love Craig Charles though .
I'm not a huge fan, but I would have rather seen her with Steve than Michelle. I'm still hoping their wedding false through.
Lloyds girlfriend is leaving?
I smell a new series of Red Dwarf on the horizon...
I've been watching Corrie since about 2008. Seems like an awful lot of actors have been leaving in last couple of years. Can anyone who has been watching for longer than I, is this usual or are there problems leading to massive changeover??
I have very much enjoyed Hayley's performance...and think that her and Craig made a great couple! Here is hoping that she will return to the cobbles again one day...
I loved Andrea when she first came on the scene, and thought her an excellent match for Steve. However, I have never seen any spark between her and Lloyd (why can't they pair him with someone nice!!!) so she hasn't "worked" for me in quite a while. I agree that the character was not well thought out.
Yet another character I like leaves...
and yet that b*tch Tracy Barlow stays.
Is it really two years since the grinning one appeared? Where does the time go. A totally pointless and ridiculous character that should have left with her bonkers husband but was kept on and on even though she was unpopular and just forced into scenes. Good luck to Tammy but good riddance to Andrea, you way outstayed your welcome.
Hmmm, ice dancers do grin a lot, now it makes sense. I was hopeful for the character when she first came on screen. The Corrie women didn't like her though so she could never have a true female friendship there which I think could have brought more out of the character and anchored her on the street without haveing to be paired up with Lloyd. Lloyd could do with a bout of just being on his own for a time, maybe organize a SKA festival :).
I wish Hayley all the very best. I think she would be brilliant in a comedy role. Sadly the writers didn't seem do know what to do with her. At least she wasn't a nasty witch like Tracy, Sarah and Bethany. So we lose another pleasant character and have to put up with the pointless return of Sarah and Bethany.
I like the phrase 'Platt syndrome' - but may i offer the show a new title - ' Platt Domination Street' John H
So now Lloyd will go around weeping and wailing about how she was another 'love of his life', go off the rails and leave for a couple of months.
No loss really. I never did understand the purpose of her character as it contributed nothing to the show.
Good luck to her in her new beginnings.
Hooray..The best news I have heard in a long time. The endlessly grinning Andrea was one of the MOST irritating characters ever.
