Coronation Street was the 5th most complained about telly show during 2014, says a report issued by communications watchdog Ofcom this week.
Coronation Street came fifth on Ofcom’s list, with a gay kiss attracting many of the complaints.
However, the regulator did not investigate the complaints because it makes no distinction between kisses between same and opposite sex couples.
Top 10 most complained about TV programmes in 2014:
1. Big Brother, Channel 5 - 3,784 complaints
2. Celebrity Big Brother, Channel 5 - 1,874 complaints
3. Cutting Edge: Going to the Dogs, Channel 4 - 1,805 complaints
4. Benefits Street, Channel 4 - 967 complaints
5. Coronation Street, ITV - 367 complaints
6. The X Factor, ITV, - 360 complaints
7. EastEnders, BBC 1 - 316 complaints
8. Emmerdale, ITV - 243 complaints
9. Sky News (20/07/14) - 205 complaints
10. Channel 4 News - 193 complaints

My biggest compaint is about Kal's arrogant family on the Street.
Just shows how many small minded bigots there are around
I'd rather see Sophie and Sian kiss any day of the week instead of two males like Todd and Marcus (yecch!) going at it.
I agree with the last commenter only in that Todd and Marcus weren't really a romance. We all knew Todd was just playing games so I couldn't get on board with it as a romance where Sian and Sophie and now Maddie and Sophie are. I like Billy and I think he and Sean might work well together.
Are the Coronation Street people proud of coming in at no. 5. Because it's nothing to be proud of.
I don't think it is a matter of so many small minded bigots around. I think it was a matter of seeing so much "skin" on prime time TV in such a sexual way. Men get a pass with the shirtless rule but when they are engaging in foreplay or heavy kissing, it can feel way too much in your face. If it was a man and a woman I think the reaction would have been the same.
@ Zagg
Or its the Great British public's sexual hypocrisy.
Zagg, I agree. It was too much for any couple. No matter who, it was so in your face for 7.30 supper time viewing.
Gay or straight, half-naked men on my telly is always okay in my books!
2015. Come on! is this even a subject still? Who gets upset by this stuff? WHO ARE YOU? weirdos.
