The TV Choice awards were given out last night. Coronation Street received two gongs, one for actress Paula Lane for Best Newcomer. Corrie's 50th Anniversary Tram Crash episodes were awarded Best Storyline but the top honours for Best Soap, Soap actor and actress went to that other soap, you know the one I mean, that one out of London ;) A full list of winners is here.
Canadian Fans, the anniversary episodes air on CBC this week with the actual crash tomorrow night. On our sister blog, Bluenose Corrie Blogger, there will be lots of posts and pics this week and next for you. Many appeared here on this blog last December.

Congratulations, Paula Lane. I'd never have Kylie over for lunch, but you do her so very well.
As far as that London soap winning, I don't watch it, but do you really think Corrie deserved it? Corrie suffered from dreadful story telling and characters that sucked the life out of viewers this year. Stapewich, Xin, smirking Tracy's return, and everything she touched, buying Max and all of Becky's excesses, Mark Marcia, Eva, Eddie leaving, James & the swindlers,... Even the tram crash, well done though it was, came out of nowhere; in 50 years, we only saw the tram once before. Time after time, credibility was stretched too far; front burner characters were cartoonishly awful or poorly acted.
We had some good soap stuff in Baby Jack, meeting Sylvia & Dennis, pottery class, and Gary's breakdown, but it wasn't enough. Good stuff has to be a a regular habit to win prizes. Hopefully this year we'll see more.
Yes, congratulations to Paula Lane. There is some justice in this world. I'm not sure I would want to win an award in a ceremony where Jeremy Kyle is similarly honoured, but maybe that's appropriate for Kylie!
I have to agree with abbyk on Eastender's win. I rarely watch it, but happened to last night, mainly because I knew Tony Discipline's chest was going to be on show for a lot of the episode. Surprisingly I found it quite entertaining, despite not knowing a lot of the characters or stories. Corrie really needs to improve.
Paula Lane certainly deserved Best Newcomer. I thought the Team Crash episodes, as a whole, did merit Best Storyline. I don't understand, never will, why the other soap always wins out over Corrie. We've been getting it again here in Canada so I've been grudgingly watching it, with much yelling at the TV. It's so grim! And badly acted.
I didn't agree with most of the complaints about Corrie this past year, though it did have its weak points. At its lowest, it still beats out its London counterpart any day.
