Stella Price to be killed off?

There's a Coronation Street spoiler in today's Sun (so take with your usual pinch of salt) that says Stella Price will be mown down by Carla Connor in the car crash, and left hanging on for dear life.

The paper says that Corrie bosses are considering axing Michelle Collins, who plays Stella Price, at Christmas if the new storyline doesn't pull in fans.

I doubt they will kill her off that quick. 1 year minimum

If Stella is near to death, that'll create a nice moral dilemma for Leanne - does she continue to ignore her mother now she's about to lose her? Will she let her die without reconciling?

I believe one year is the standard contract length for new cast members. Makes sense.

This doesn't seem to fit with other spoiler's. I thought Frank was supposed to attack Carla in autumn, so i assumed the crash would come first since i've read somewhere that Frank takes 'responsibility for a crash Carla is responsible for.' I doubt he would do that if Carla nearly kills Stella?

'Last chance storyline'? She's been in the show barely a month! Her first big storyline has barely even begun yet - way too soon to judge.

Never mind the show having troubles, I'm getting a bit tired of all this sensationalist pot-stirring by the media. Sure, the show goes through its ups and downs, but there's no need to make the downs out to be more than they are.

Having said that, I do hope that when Stella and her family were brought in to the show, the writers had an actual long-term plan for them beyond 'shock Leanne by having her real mum turn up'.

The thing is about all the characters said to be in desperate need of an overhaul, that they all have plenty of potential inherent in their current situation, but often that potential isn't being realised because a) there's a large cast, so all the characters are competing for air time, and b) the focus these days always seems to be on dreaming up 'big' dramatic stories that will create instant impact, rather than on more low-key character-based stories that might not grab headlines but would be more satisfying in the long-run.

I'm really surprised by all the recent negativity towards Corrie. I fully agree that during the first half of the year, the show lost its way, and lost its mix of drama/comedy. However, since the conclusion of the Max/Becky plot and Xin/Graham plot, I think the show has really improved again. I'm watching Corrie and enjoying it again, rather than watching it out of habit and as a chore, which it became for a while.

I notice the article says Phil is leaving in 2012, perhaps it's for the best

I thought Carla was going to smash into the bookies in her car, is she going to knock down Stella as well? I thought she was banned from driving until November? Although I am not a fan of Michelle Collins and dont think she should have been brought it, now she is here, let's give her a chance before plotting to kill her off! I suspect it will be one of the famous "deathbed" scenes in Weathy General, only for them to make a totally "mirculous" recovery and be up and about in days!

They switch producers these days every couple of years it seems so it would be time next year for the end of PC's contract.

I'm always surprised, too, that Corrie is seen in such a negative light by the fans. It's one thing to be critical but when people insist over and over that it's so bad yet they keep watching for the most part, then it really can't be, can it? Here in Canada, fans seem to be a lot more forgiving, again, for the most part where they may be frustrated with certain storylines, but overall, you're less likely to hear that the overall condition of the show is deteriorating. I wonder if that's in part because Corrie is rarely in the media here so there's not the frenzy constantly being stirred up over it it as there is in the UK.

What happened to the Kylie post that was just above this one?

Fans do moan about Corrie yet continue to watch and this is very similar to football fans who complain about their club's performance. Get rid of the manager, get rid of the coach - it's much the same as get rid of the producers and writers. It's our soap and we're entitled to complain about it. My negativity started with Michelle arriving, cast for her looks and not her talent. When I found I was skipping the programme and catching up with newspapers, I knew we were in trouble. And why do they concentrate so much time on Sophie and Sian? Is it to attract younger viewers? Most youngsters I know watch Hollyoaks or Desperate Housewives.

Hmmm, the Sun eh? I'll take this at face value. If it's true it seems a bit hard on Michelle Collins when others should be in the front of the queue for Carla's car.

Criticism comes when you care about something. If a good friend or family member has breath that could remove paint then you tell them, because you are bothered about them and don't want to see them hurt or isolated.

I don't criticise EastEnders, Hollyoaks or Tonight's the Night, because I don't like them or watch them and I could not care less whether the characters/stories are good, bad or indifferent.

I like Stella actually. I think we're so used to the fast in-your-face storylines lately that now that they're finally taking some time for a story to develop, we don't like it. I hope they don't kill her off-that's all it seems lately - jail or death. Leanne needs a mum. Better a lingering tragic death that a quick ending via drunken Carla. Maybe cancer - I know they've done that bit with Sally but maybe the other side of the coin where it doesn't end happily..just my two cents.
Eva can go...just a blonde Kylie..acts like her and facial expressions identical. Kylie needs to get pregnant..wouldn't that put Gail in stitches!!
