Philip Lowrie has revealed that when Dennis Tanner returns to Coronation Street next month he will be homeless, sleeping rough on the cobbles.
The actor, who left the soap in 1968, is returning after 43 years as bad boy Dennis, son of Corrie legend Elsie Tanner, but revealed on This Morning he will not be making a glamorous entrance for his comeback.
Philip said: "When we see Dennis on May the 12th, he's actually homeless, sleeping in a doorway in a cardboard box."
Dennis appears back in the soap when he bumps into Sophie Webster and her girlfriend Sian Powers at the soup kitchen where they are volunteering.
Ken Barlow and Emily Bishop are the few Corrie characters left who will remember Dennis, along with Rita Sullivan. She and Dennis had a brief liaison that lasted just one episode, so it remains to be seen whether they'll rekindle their romance next month. Ken and Dennis are old enemies, but Philip revealed he is set to clash with another of the Street's older residents who is not at all happy about him turning up.
"I'm sorry to say Norris doesn't like Dennis, not one little bit," he explained.

Oh dear, Norris is going to be jealous of Dennis and his previous relationship with Rita. I am looking forward to this, lets have some light hearted banter instead of the misery that Corrie seems to have become lately.
Oooh, I'm SO looking forward to this. I loved Dennis Tanner and any link to my all-time favourite Elsie is very welcome.
And any stick he gives to Norris will be brilliant - I can't stand the little twerp.
Happy Easter everyone!
Excellent to see the return of Dennis Tanner. The last time I remember seeing Philip Lowrie was back in the Seventies, presenting ITV's Schools & Colleges programme, Picture Box!
Sorry. My mistake. It was Alan Rothwell (David Barlow) who hosted Picture Box, not Philip Lowrie as I suggested in my earlier comment
Even though he was before my time, i'm well versed in Corrie history and i love it when they throw us little links to the past like this. I'm not surprised Nozzer will clash and be jealous, it's typical of him!
So Nozzer isn't dead?
soz for the pathetic joke just Jim's old jail mate said Nozzer's dead
