Aug-29-2010

Written by Peter Whalley, directed by Pip Short

The Alahan’s are given the good news – Aadi is awake and they can see him.  The Alahans are elated and and Sunita is upset realizing that Aadi might not have made itAug-29-2010-Aadi-hospital through.  Social services shows up again at the hospital to talk to Aadi and Dev isn’t happy about it.  Dr. Jordan allows social services through to see Aadi, but Dev wants to know if they’re going to talk to the woman who was babysitting Aadi when this injury might have happened.  Social services asks the Alahan’s for Claire’s information and Dev gives them attitude where Sunita thanks them for doing their job.  Dev is very upset to see his child in bed with bandages.  Aadi tells his father that the ladies asked him who had been looking after him and he said that mummy and daddy had.  Sunita warns Dev about putting words in Aadi’s mouth.

Social services arrives at the Peacock’s to question them about what happened to Aadi Alahan when he was over there for a sleepover.  Aug-29-2010-Claire-questioned Claire says that Aadi felt a bit tired i the morning, but that’s all.  They ask Claire if she was with Aadi the entire time he was there and that she didn’t leave him at all – and she lies and confirms it.  Then, immediately looks guilty.  Ashley wants to know why Claire lied later, but Claire figures there was no point in telling them about Sophie and that if they look at her record, then that’s it.  They see the Alahan’s coming off the street and asks them why they sent the social workers over.  They get into a bit of a tiff with the Alahans thinking that Claire did something to Aadi.  Dev tells Claire that he’ll make sure that she never goes near anyone else’s children – ever – bringing Claire to tears.

Leanne calls to see how Aadi is and is happy to announce that he’s come around.  Simon is very quiet about the whole thing.  LeanneAug-29-2010-Boring-Stag thinks that they should go by the hospital to visit Aadi, and Simon just says “sure.”  Simon wants to know if Aadi is okay, if it matters what happened.  Leanne, Peter and Simon come to see Aadi and Dev thinks that Aadi will be made up to see Simon.  Simon says he doesn’t want to go in, but the adults think he’s just scared to see him in the hospital.

Ken tries to convince Roy of having a stag night – or at least a quick drink in the Rovers – but Roy would rather have a quiet night of Aug-29-2010-Kenn-Deirdre contemplation.  Hayley insists that Roy is going and it’s very kind of Ken.  Ken drums up some men for Roy’s stag night and can really only find John.  Oh, what joy – no wonder Roy wasn’t interested.  Roy shows up at the Rovers to find a modest stag night of just Ken and John and seems rather relieved.

Ken tries to read the letter to Deirdre but Deirdre could care less.  As Ken is reading it out loud – about Susan wanting a drink with him back in ‘61 – but Deirdre is chatting with Liz overtop of it and isn’t listening at all.  Ken says that he’s managed to track down Susan through a sister that owns a baby-wear shop.  Deirdre says she doesn’t know why she didn’t figure this out sooner – just not listening to Aug-29-2010-Becky-chokeholdKen.  Deirdre says she doesn’t care if her and Ken don’t stop fighting.

Liz is less than impressed about Kylie and how she’s made a mockery of the place and wants to know when she’s leaving.  Steve doesn’t want to put anything more on Becky  though.  Becky comes down and says she can’t find Kylie and Liz figures her prayers might have been answered.  Becky figures that she needs to go look for Kylie, but Steve doesn’t really know why, but offers to go anyway.  Becky Aug-29-2010-Kylie-Max and Steve go to some slum and as a Slug-ish guy about where Kylie is and he tries to give them a hard time.  Steve gives him a tenner and the guy tells him that Kylie’s got a bit of a secret and he gives them that and her address after Becky chokes him up against the wall.

Becky knocks at a door of a home looking for Kylie.  A couple answers the door and tells them that Kylie’s in the back.  Becky wants to know if it’s true what they’ve been told – has she got a son?  Kylie says it’s true and introduces them to her son, Max.  Becky finds that Max is in foster care because Max was taken away from Kylie.  Kylie says they won’t let her since she doesn’t have a place to live and sheAug-29-2010-Natasha-scan has no idea what it’s like raising a kid on her own.  Kylie says that she’s okay now and wants him back but they won’t give him back to her.  Kylie won’t tell Becky who the dad is.  Kylie says she’s only allowed to see him a couple times a week and it’s like torture.  Becky wants to help Kylie get Max back.

Natasha shows up in the Rovers and orders herself an orange juice.  Fiz has gotten a scan photo of her baby and wants to show Natasha.  Natasha gets nervous when Fiz shows her the scan and says that it could really be anyone’s baby – you’d never know who’s is whos’s – which gets Natasha thinking.  When Fiz jetties off to the loo, Natasha sneaks into her purse and steals her scan photo.  This just gets…better.

HIGHLIGHTS

- Claire’s “I *heart* tea” mug!  Love it!

- Deirdre saying that she doesn’t know why she hadn’t tried simply “not listening” to Ken before.

- How boring Roy’s stag night is!!! John: “You’re a very popular man, Roy.”  Roy: “Well, I wouldn’t go that far.”  Haha, me either!

LOWLIGHTS

- Roy: “I’m really not a stag night kind of person. In fact, I can’t imagine anything worse.”  Wow, Roy, tell us how you really feel.

- Social services really has a hard job.  I thought someone should stick up for them!

- Liz makes a good point – we’ve never heard anything about Becky’s sister and now it’s all “me sista.”

The subject of child abuse is a very topical one. This story could have been informative and poignant if it were not for the awful "acting" of Jimmi Harkison who thinks making wierd noises and dancing about is putting the point across. He is becoming an embarrassment now. Dreadful.

I thought the scenes with police & social services were pretty good. Loved Roy's stag night!
