Ian Puleston-Davies, who plays Coronation Street's new builder Owen Armstrong, has revealed that he suffers from Obsessive Compulsory Disorder (OCD).In an interview with today's Mirror Ian says that he's suffered from OCD since childhood and that it's so severe he has to go through a mental checklist to help him cope.
He says: "I worry I'm going to cut my lip or chip my teeth, so that damn pint glass in the Rovers is always going to leave me susceptible to an OCD attack. I have to check the lip of the glass with my finger first to make sure that it's not chipped and then practise taking a sip and a swallow before we even rehearse. If I waited until we began filming, my OCD - my little evil voice in my head - would say 'it's stained' or 'you've just chipped your teeth'.
"Recently I did a scene with Ryan Thomas who plays Jason Grimshaw where we had to jump into my van. Without anyone knowing I had to get into the van before we filmed and practise sitting down to convince myself I wouldn't crack my coccyx by sitting down too quickly."
The article also reveals that Ian's on-screen character Owen will soon get into bother with Bill Webster after pinching the contract for rebuilding Underworld from Bill. Viewers will soon see Owen's darker side as he targets Bill's business, premises and contacts. Poor Bill!

The show needs a new builder anyway, Bill and Jason havent quite worked the same as Charlie and Jason xD
Yep, time for Bill Webster to retire, I reckon. This man means business, Bill's got no chance, Jason will be wanting to jump ship.

Regarding the "Owen" character though, not surprised about the "dark" side; he has a dangerous feel to him.
I think it's Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. In fact I'm sure it is - I used to treat people with it, in a past life!
And by the way - it is extremely unpleasant, but, doesn't always have to be life-hampering - there is help out there. Anyone wants further info - let me know.
Well as Ian says in the article, he was taking meds and therapy, but elected to discontinue it, and the OCD returned.
He says he's going to try Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, but admits that you're never cured and it's a continuing battle.
It sounds really awful, the way he describes his days, how does one get like that I wonder.
Good to see Bill get a storyline for once!
