Reasonable Doubt: Fri Apr 2, 2010 Corrie Episode Review

Becky is in a huge amount of pain as Steve and Liz ready to take her to hospital.  At the hospital, Becky says the pain isn’t as bad, but it’s still there and she feels like it might just be a bad period pain or something. The doctor sees Becky and asks for a urine sample since he wants to know if she’s pregnant or not.  Becky starts off as happy that she might be pregnant but worried about her bleeding.  The doctor finally tells Becky that she was pregnant but must have had an early miscarriage much to her disappointment.  Becky now has to go in for a scan and the results are in: she has an abnormality of the uterus, which is why she might be continuing to miscarry.  He basically tells her she can’t have children because of it.  Becky is shocked since she’s only twenty-nine and at least one baby will survive.  Steve asks the doctor about IVF, but he tells them that’s help people GET pregnant, not stay pregnant. 

At home, Becky makes Steve promise not to tell his mum about what happened, but he tells her anyway.  Steve tells Becky she should talk to someone – maybe Liz, but Becky just wants to wallow.  The poor thing.  First she doesn’t even want children, then she does, now she can’t.  Becky realizes that Steve’s ex Karen was barren, and that he’ll leave her just as he left Karen.  She figures they have no future together now and starts sobbing.  Steve reminds Becky that he and Karen didn’t split up because they couldn’t have a baby and that she’ll always have him.  Steve tells his mum later that he’s absolutely gutted.

Liz is in a right mood now taking it out on her bar staff.  Ciaran reckons with Michelle that Liz could just be having hot flashes, as he flirts with her.  Ciaran and  Michelle watch Jason drinking himself into a stupor at the bar until Eileen comes in and pulls him out.  Jason returns to Bill and Bill’s not happy that Jason’s drunk.  Bill sends him home to sleep it off, and as he leaves he falls down the stairs of the builder’s yard ending in a heap at the bottom.  Bill calls Roy over for some emergency first-aid.  Why don’t they take him to the clinic down the road for a check?  Now that Jason’s hit his head, he still thinks Tina’s his girlfriend.  Oh, gees, seriously?  At the clinic, Eileen comes by to see how Jason is and Roy tells her that he’s got some short-term amnesia.  Jason doesn’t even remember that Gail is locked up.  Eileen breaks the news to Jason about Tina and he’s confused. 

Tina is sat alone at the flat crying over photos of her father.  Norris and Eileen try to ring up to Tina, but get no answer.  They assume she’s out but she really sat up there ignoring them.  Tina ignores repeated rings up to her flat.  She finally answers it, and it’s Norris and she tells him to “go away.”  She basically tells Norris to replace her if he needs someone so urgently.  Eileen goes over to tell Tina that Jason’s had an accident and how it’s affected his memory.  Tina asks Eileen what she’s supposed to do, and thinks that Eileen is making this up.  Tina stomps over to Eileen’s and asks Jason what’s going on.  Jason’s memory has come back after his lie-down now and Eileen looks the idiot. 

Gail calls David stupid for meddling with the witnesses.  Gail tells David she knows it’s hard but she will get out of there – she has faith in the system.  David wonders how she can be so reasonable, and Gail says she is because it reminds her of who she is. 

Janice is still keen on her diet and Trev can’t understand her reasoning behind it.  It’s so she can lose weight to look good for you, you big oaf.  Janice admits her diet is because she needs to lose weight, but Trev thinks she needn’t bother.   At a meal in the Rovers, as Trev gets up to go to the loo Janice stuffs her face with a handful of his chips to his utter amusement, as he’s seen her.  At home later, Trev teases her further with food, since she’s on a diet.  He leaves a jar of cookies infront of her, then leaves, knowing he’ll catch her with one and he does.  Janice admits she’s got no willpower, so Trev says he’ll go on a diet with her and even cook a healthy meal to her shock. 

Rita’s readied herself for her date with Lewis, only Audrey stops her for a chat.  Audrey tells Rita all about Gail’s ordeal and how she has no control over the situation.  She also tells Rita and her and Gail’s fall-out.  Audrey tells Rita about how good it feels to talk to Lewis.  When Audrey asks where Rita is headed after, Rita lies and says “nowhere special.”  Rita meets Lewis at the theatre bar and he tells her she looks stunning.  He lays on the charm thick for her.  Rita indulges herself telling Lewis about how she was a singer in her time.  Rita tells Lewis is nice to have a someone else get her drinks at the theatre to which he responds, “everything is better with a companion.”  Is that the tag-line for his business?  He checks his messages when Rita’s out of earshot, and Audrey has called him requesting a date tonight.  He books Audrey in for a date at the theatre that night.  Does he just live there?  Audrey shows up at the theatre and brings him his pay packet and asks if he’s free Easter Sunday, only he’s not since he’s accompanying Rita somewhere. 

Dev and Sunita go to their viewing of Maria’s home where Sunita tells him she’s selling up.  Dev doesn’t want to live on Coronation Street, but Sunita’s keen.  So keen, nothing will take her off this place.  Dev tries all he can do to change Sunita’s mind about Maria’s house but she’s a woman who knows what she wants.  She gets Dev by telling him that if they have a cheaper place they can save for the kids university expenses one day.  Enough to soften any father’s heart. 

HIGHLIGHTS

- The fact that David actually confessed what he’d done to his mum regarding the witnesses.  The “old David” wouldn’t have confessed anything, but kept it all a dirty secret, as per usual.  I guess they’re really changing the face of David Platt, at least a little. 

- Trev coming out of the loo to catch Janice eating cookies!  “You buggar!”

- Kirk playing “Estate Agent” at Maria’s, burnt bread, doggie-do, I hope he doesn’t quit his day-job.  If he er, has one. 

LOWLIGHTS

- Rita going on a date with Lewis, after Audrey tells her she’s such a good friend.  Tsk.

- Becky and Steve when they heard they can’t have children – so sad. :(

- Jason bonking his head and thinking that Tina is still his girlfriend.  Seriously?
