The collage above includes the top Corrie couples voted by you. And you can see the countdown from No. 1 to 50 here.

Did you enjoy the countdown? Were you shocked by some of the results? Did your fave couples get a justified ranking? Or were they robbed?

For me, I'm glad Stan and Hilda won because it's a real testament of their popularity despite it being 30 years since they last appeared together. Through YouTube and DVDs, plus the occasional post on this blog, we are reminded of that great partnership.

I was also pleasantly shocked that the Bishops, who last appeared as a couple in 1978, managed to reach the top 20 while I'm also thrilled that the likes of Alf and Audrey, Len and Rita and Derek and Mavis were also high. I do think that Jack and Annie Walker should've been higher but you can't have everything.

I must agree with one comment that was made that it was nice to see Kirk and Beth receive so many votes and it showed that Corrie still creates popular couples. Apart from them, only Ken and Deirdre from the current cast appear in the top 20. Of course when the poll was conducted, the Croppers we're still in the show.

I hope you enjoyed the countdown as much as I did conducting the polls, collecting the results and writing all the rankings. Thank you for your response and comments - they are very much appreciated. I'm excited to see a comment appear under the post, be it a condemnation of a ranking or praise. Thank you all.

Yes but the poll doesn't mean anything, because of the way it was conducted. As I recall, people were allowed to vote for two couples out of a choice of five. So the result depends on who the couples were grouped with and how many people saw and voted in each poll.

Kirk and Beth were in the final poll which attracted 200 more votes than the previous one. And in that poll, Vera and Jack were up against Kylie/David, Ashley/Maxine, David/Irma and Jason/Sarah. Hardly anyone voted for the last two which probably explains the high total for Ashley/Maxine.

If you want to determine Corrie's most popular couple, then allow people to vote for any number of the initial five and then select the top 10, 12, 15 or 20 and give everyone one vote.

It was a good run-down and fun to read!

Yes but if you look at the top 20, the couples included were and are popular, whatever they rank. It makes a change that the Duckies didn't win (imo), although I thought it would've been a close one between them and the Oggies or Croppers.

I tried not to pit popular couples against each other so that every couple got a fair chance.

"I tried not to pit popular couples against each other so that every couple got a fair chance".

Yes, but doesn't that instantly tell you that there is something wrong with the voting method? You are manipulating the result before a single vote has been cast.

You clearly put a lot of effort into your statistical blogs and they are interesting. But I really don't understand why you don't construct the polls better, so they are not just a bit of fun, but something more scientific.

But that is what they are - a bit of fun. The countdown was really what any other countdown would've been, whatever method.

Is the fact that the Duckies weren't number one making the countdown wrong? Every couple, I feel, got the ranking they deserved.

Llifon has done a fantastic job with these polls - the blog is about fun, we are not an academic / statistical arena.

^Top 12 not top 2.

So are you saying Stan and Hilda weren't a great couple? People got to choose 2 couples so they weren't constrained.

Nobody has complained about the way the poll has been conducted so I presumed they were happy.

I'm sorry if you've been disappointed.

Maybe I'm a bit defensive. I'm the same when it comes to soap awards nominees. :)

You take the poll with a grain of salt. I voted when opportunity arose. Unless someone is going to take the time to do one they feel is better...more accurate...then just say thanks for the countdown and the trip down memory lane. :-)
