Corrie Comicals week ending 5 April 2019

First up a brief apology for not delivering last week.  Somehow the backdrop of a funeral and related events cast quite a black cloud over matters and I felt there was nothing to celebrate.  Things have improved this week.

At the top there we have "Me Me Me Michelle" calling out her former partner Robert who has turned up at Rana's memorial service in the Community Gardens and is laughing at Carla being "mourner in chief", knowing that Carla was covering up her knowledge of Pat Phelan's dastardly deeds in "repairing" the Underworld roof.  Michelle does not like it being about someone else - it should always be about Michelle!

Away from Rita's improving influence Gemma is reverting to type and ensures her plate is clean in a rather old-fashioned way.  Since she moved on to the Street Gemma has been trying to turn her life around and I am sure she we can all share Chesney's concern.  Somehow writing for Chesney and his partners seems hard - can someone re-ignite the younger Chesney whilst not losing the responsible parent we are now stuck with seeing?

Tim needs to change his lifestyle so his friends Steve and Dev get a triple decker butty which reminds them of the mash potato mountain in "Close Encounters...".  But will he ever get to eat it?  Of course not as on cue Sally arrives with Gina's wheelie suitcase - another tall story!

Since Brian bought the Kabin I have been waiting for a decent scene between him and Rita.  And finally - Brian knew the answer to the quiz question was Donna Summer, although to be honest the "right" answer is, as Mary said, Richard Harris.  Glen Campbell is another major name who covered this Jimmy Webb classic of Macarthur Park with a "cake in the rain".  Brian says he is on fire answering the quiz question and asks Rita to prepare the fire extinguisher.  As she says (above) "Please don't tempt me!".

Well it made me laugh.  Come on Carla, given his past behaviour how can you possibly believe that Peter will always be there for you?

The legend of Hong Kong Stuey visits the Street, it is not a chain and does not do guarantees, he has a lockup on the estate and he "knows people".  After all he let Macca's aunty have a cheap hoover and that exploded - even if she was trying to hoover the dog at the time, with the dog ending up on castors!

Someone should tell Brian that if you are in Victoria Gardens then Costa Coffee is closer than Roy's for that cuppa - just!  And in a continuing series of continuity fluffs watch as David's sandwich keeps changing in the shots just after the first break!

Well said Yasmeen.  Geoff did indeed need to be called out on his treatment of Brian and we enjoy Geoff's benign humour but Brian had not deserved Geoff's trashing of his crop and the delivery of supermarket sourced beans!

Back Room Crew

A couple of stand out shots along the way this week in lieu of extras.  Roy has the ketchup bottle returned from loan and below the view down to Prima Doner with Coronation Street on the left and the medical centre on the right.  Both from the Matt Hilton workbook who helmed the entire week - typically they do six sequential episodes but not usually contained in a single week.

Writers: Ellen Taylor & Debbie Oates (Monday); Carmel Morgan & Damon Alexis-Rochefort (Wednesday);  Chris Fewtrell (Friday)
Directors: Matt Hilton (Monday & Wednesday & Friday)

I definitely got a chuckle out of Michelle accusing Robert of making everything all about him. It was the funniest part of the show all week for me!
