Next week on Coronation Street we'll see Billy the Vicar confide in Todd and reveal his dark family secret. Now then, we've already seen Billy being pestered for cash from one of his "troubled parisioners", but Billy reveals to Todd that the lad is Lee, his brother. Not only that, Lee's a heroin addict too.
Inside Soap magazine have a great interview with Daniel Brocklebank, who plays vicar Billy Mayhew.
Daniel explains that Billy had a rough childhood. "Billy's mother left early on and when his father found out he was gay, he threw Billy out of the house and told him he was dead to him. Later on, when their dad was dying of alcoholism, a neighbour contacted Billy to tell him to come home - but his father threw him out again.
"The trouble is that Lee doesn't know what happened. He thinks that Billy just abandoned him. Now he's just come out of prison and he's a heroin addict."
Billy confides in Todd rather than Sean about all of this and Billy and Todd become closer afterwards. Daniel says: "Billy and Sean have always been very honest with each other, so this is bound to drive a wedge between them."
Oh, let's hope so.

What a surprise! The boy is Billy's brother. Never saw that one coming. I'll get my coat.
Brilliant! I hope Billy and Todd play this for all it's worth. Both of them deserve a good, meaty storyline.
I'd be happy to see Todd and Billy together, makes far more sense. However, it seems very contrived that Billy wouldn't confide in Sean. There again, soaps wouldn't survive long without secrets and lies.
Now I would like to know what happened to Todd in London. He left for university with plans (I think) to become a lawyer. Did he drop out, get kicked out, finish but not have any job offers, screw up royally at a job to the point it made him unhireable,... He is very intelligent and works well in combination with many other characters -- its a shame to keep him locked up with Tracy as an entry level underling, esp. when there is a equally intelligent gay man for him to be friends with. Wish he could re-qualify for some professional or paraprofessional career, or at least buy out Tracy and make something of that shop.

I wouldn't be happy to see Billy and Todd together. Todd is far too devious to be with a vicar. It would seem like a mockery. Sean may have his faults, but he is not a horrible person, as we have seen time and time again with Todd.
Why wouldn't he just tell Sean? It's her brother. There's no dark secret there.
I have to admit I'd really prefer to see Todd and Billy together - they both have a complexity that Sean simply cannot muster. Even with Todd's dark side, it would seem he's far more similar in many ways to Billy than Sean will ever be. I hope this becomes the latest love triangle and Sean loses... big time.
Didn't Todd steal a boyfriend from Sean in the past?
