Coronation Street Blog attends Exclusive Press Preview of Corrie's Big Week

Next week promises to be a big one on the cobbles with Corrie on every night from Sunday 22nd to Thursday 26th May. I have just had the pleasure of travelling to Manchester with my fellow blogger, the lovely Ruth Owen, to preview some crucial episodes, and interview a number of those at the centre of the two main storylines; Carla and Nick’s wedding, and the discovery of the body of Callum Logan.

Before we get down to interviews, of which there are several, I thought it would be nice to give readers a little insight into the day itself.

The location was the Lowry, and we found ourselves in a bright, airy room which overlooked Salford Quays, and the Coronation Street building and set as well as the BBC and other buildings forming part of Media City UK.

After a welcome and introduction from new producer Kate Oates, Ruth and I spent a good 90 minutes on the edge of our front row seats. We all know of the enjoyment that communal Corrie viewing can bring, and it really is a unique situation, and a great pleasure and privilege, to watch a preview of unseen episodes on a big screen together with a group which includes your fellow blogger, the new producer and some of the actors performing in them.

After the screening, there was time for a light lunch over which Ruth and I chatted about what we had just seen, and speculated about what might come as well as having a lovely catch-up. One of the best things about writing for this blog is the friendships we have made, and as we are quite a scattered bunch, geographically speaking, our interactions mainly occur online. Therefore, any opportunity to catch up in person is always a joy. After this short break, during which time cast members, staff, journalists and us bloggers mingled about, we took our seats for the interviews.

Our list for the day was impressive as we prepared to chat with Kate Ford, Tristan Gemmill, Alison King, Ben Price, Paula Lane, Tina O’Brien and Jack P. Shepherd. Interviews can occur in various settings, and we have in the past been lucky to experience both the intimacy of the Bistro, as well as larger rooms in which we might be seated in rows for both screenings and interviews. On this occasion, the screening took place in a cinema style layout, and for the interviews we moved to round tables where a small number of us chatted with a maximum of two cast members at a time. The set up lent itself to a lovely atmosphere, many interesting insights and much laughter.

While our interviews are on the way, and I plan to link to them all here once they’re up on the blog, all I can say about the episodes to come is, whatever you do, you won't want to miss them.
