Dennis Tanner will return to Coronation Street. It's official, ITV says so.
Soaps Queen Sharon Marshall said on ITV's This Morning in her soap slot that Dennis would return to Corrie. However, that's all the information we have. So I don't know when he'll come back, or for how long although it's fair to say that Gloria Price won't be with him.
I just hope he's back long enough for Rita to bundle up all his clothes and chuck them out of an upstairs window onto the cobbles below. As he bends to pick up his belongings, I would then like Rita to shout down to him on the Street and tell him to sling his hook.

Yep. Rita should not take him back after what he did. But I'd be glad to see him back anyway. You know, most of Deirdre's men were much older than her, maybe he could put a sparkle back in her eye and a knot in Ken's face :)
or.... Audrey!
Oh I hope he's back for the long haul and yes Audrey would be a good match, though I'd love to see Lewis back with her or Archie. Could be a bit awkward with Rita still around but then I have no sympathy for her as she has turned into a most disagreeable shrew. Seems her and Norris could be made for each other now.
On the 'movers and leavers' on Digital Spy, Gloria was down to leave in spring '14 and Dennis in summer '14. Whether he actually goes then or stays indefinitely is another matter. I thought Dennis might have left with Gloria as a shock tactic given the speed and hilarity with which he jumped in the car. He's been gone too long for that so probably he and Gloria have had a falling-out and he'll back begging for forgiveness. Rita's pride has been too dented for her to take him back unless she has a complete rethink and decides to go gallivanting round the world with him. If he's on the Street for the next few months, please, writers, give him something to do other than turning up at the Kabin every day, grovelling for another chance.
I love Dennis & really enjoyed all the trials & tribulations of being a "Lollipop Man". Maybe when he comes back he can help out at the soup kitchen or Emily's Bundle Sales. Something to redeem himself and maybe shine a warmer light on him so Rita will forgive him and take him back.
I think it might be a wake-up call for Rita. She treated him dreadfully..so bad in fact that the first woman in ages who complimented him was able to steal him away. I really liked Dennis with Gloria..not so much with Rita. Maybe he'll make a move on Audrey.

Really, you want them to be that cliche? Rita is a 82 year old woman, time she stopped acting like someone 50 years younger. After all, she didn't like Dennis revisiting his youth. What short memories every have, considering Rita is quite a vile woman. And yes people call him a sponger and waster, but hey, he has had more of a career and life than Rita. Despite his prison sentence he was quite involved in showbusiness, all Rita did was sing in grotty clubs yet she thinks she is the queen of the street. I was happy by her humiliation, she isn't even a good friend to Norris.
Dennis only started to treat Rita badly after months of being belittled and condescended to by her. She was lovely to him when they first met up, but she's been vile lately. Dennis is a weak man in many ways so it's understandable he would take the easy option and run off with Gloria hoping for some excitement, instead of staying under the thumb of Weatherfield's answer to the Dowager Countess of Grantham:) But deep down he and Rita do love each other. Let's hope when he returns (even if it's only briefly) we get some meaty scenes of Rita and Dennis looking at what went wrong, and admittimg they have both treated each other badly.
I would love for the writers to find something for him to do and have him stay. I guess we'll see...
A while back I suggested that having Dennis work with Roy in the cafe would have a lot of potential, and I still think it would be a good idea. They are such opposites that could be great comedy.
This is ridiculous. Dennis left in a red jag rather than a black cab so what is exactly the point of bringing him back again?? More disingenuous begging Rita to take him back with her being sanctimonous and Lording it over him yet again? No thanks. When its over let it go.
Frosty, you've answered your own question - it wasn't a black cab, so it doesn't count :-)
Time waster until King Ken comes back with yet another 'explosive' storyline.
So we have had Paul leave, come back only to leave. Tina leave, come back but is going to leave. Now Dennis. For god sake writers just stop with the false exits.
If he comes back at all it'll be for a few episodes only I reckon.
