There's a bizarre snippet in today's Mirror that says Coronation Street's Emily Bishop is set to become addicted to Breaking Bad "in hilarious tribute to US meth drama".
Now then, I love Breaking Bad. I've just recently discovered it and am half-way through watching the second series. Anyway, if this story is true, the Mirror says this:
Prim and proper Emily Bishop is set to become hooked on Breaking Bad in a hilarious Corrie tribute to the hit US meth drama.
"I think it is about a diamond dealer... Or does he deal with crystals? I am not sure," Emily tells Rita. "I am really looking forward to it. I think it is about a diamond dealer... Or does he deal with crystals? I am not sure."
Rita replies: "Well, I love stuff about jewellery."
Turning down a babysitting offer, Emily later explains: "A friend from church has had a fall and broke his hip so I need to go and sit with him. His name is Walter White. He is quite active in the community. It is quite a bad break."
Breaking Bad fans will know that Walter White is the name of the main character in the US show.

This is hilarious?
That's what the Mirror says. Their words, not mine!
Hey!! It would be a nice "break" from Sophie & Maddie..most ridiculous storyline in ages and ages. I'll take poking fun at BB anyday...over that useless, boring, untalented actress who plays Sophie.
BTW...Breaking Bad was an excellent show! :))
It's amusing but really, I can't see why anyone would think Emily would enjoy a series about drug dealers. It's quite violent though quite good. It doesn't seem like her thing. However, having said that, I would think it will either be a running thing where she does like it, making Norris do his own laundry and cooking, or a quick one-off where she tries watching it and is horrified. It seems more like something Mary would like
From the sounds of it, I don't think Emily realizes what the show is about and when she does, she'll be mortified.
The show ran for 5 years (although it took 6 years to show it). Why wait until it's off the air to mention it? -Further proof that Corrie's become out of touch.
Emmerdale already did the same story with its oldie characters a few months ago
Never ever heard of the programme! Has it ever been shown in the UK?
Anonymous@23:05 On the contrary, the show may have run for five years, but it's only now that it's reputation has really spread. I know many people who are only now discovering it on DVD or Netflix, so rather than being out of touch, the show's actually reflecting a genuine, contemporary social trend.
That said, this really doesn't sound at all hilarious, and as for the lines referencing the main character's name & punning on the show's title - this just breaks the viewer's suspension of disbelief (unless we are to believe Emily is having a sly joke herself, which in view of her sense of humour is not impossible. Otherwise it comes off as just the sort of in-joke that all actors learn alienates an audience. Still, I love Emily, so any bit of screentime for her is welcome.
Sounds like she'll have the 'episoditis' where she is addicted and might give up other things to watch another episode. That is a modern day affliction. if she can get past third season without becoming sick from the violence, then she's a braver woman than I am... And wouldn't Norris have something to say about this? I guess ITV runs the show in the UK?
Seriously awesome series but not quite Emily Bishop's cup of tea. Very funny storyline though if true :)
