Hayley Tamaddon gets six months Corrie contract

Hayley Tamaddon, who plays Coronation Street newcomer Andrea, has been given a six month contract to stay on the show, reports The Sun (via Digital Spy).

Hayley's character has also been given a surname, always a good sign that a character's going to stay.  She's Andrea Beckett.

Any thoughts on Andrea so far, Corrie fans?

I've found myself shouting at her, going "it's none of your business!" when she's been caught in between Steve and Michelle's bedroom shenanigans.  I do hope she gets together with Lloyd though, not Steve.

I like her better with Lloyd than Steve.

I would like to see her with Lloyd too, and I'm glad that she's staying around.
She lights up the pub, especially in comparison to the dreadful thunder cloud that is Michelle.
Lloyd deserves a good mate.

Steve in my mind is so much the clown, so adept at side-stepping most issues, that I can't even imagine him in a loving relationship with anyone.

Andrea's attractiveness is not so much to do with her looks but her jolly personality which shines through. She's not glam or bosomy like many of the others on Corrie. She's the girl-next-door and quite why someone as vain as Michelle would be jealous of her, I can't imagine. It depends on the writers. She could become a bunny boiler, determined to have Steve or she could be a terrific mate for Lloyd.

Andrea is a breath of fresh air, she's friendly and bubbly and I hope the writers keep her that way, I'm so fed up with moany shouty women all the time. I'd like her to be with Lloyd. Perhaps she knows someone she can introduce to Steve.

I didn't like her on her first scene, but think she would be great with Lloyd. I do like that she is a nice person and not another Kylie, Tracey, Kristy etc... I hope it means Lloyd is on more.

They've gone from one extreme to the other - Michelle who is misery personified to Andrea who seems so jolly that she comes across as fake.

I like her with Steve, they have great and obvious chemistry! As compared to the dure matching with Michelle. Steve has been deprived of a decent partner for so long and has been saddled with the writers pitching him az a clown, whereas one can so evidently see he would be happy with Andrea and the actor's full acting talents could be used. Lloyd was given a romantic storyline more recently (the recycled one with Michelle for Steve hardly counts as romantic storyline and opportunity for new direction; please). I have been unimpressed with Lloyd's treatment of Steve when he decided to go back to school. It is Steve's turn, he deserves the opportunity.

Steve carries that whole group of characters and deserves some happiness, after all the bullying. Steve with Andrea please!

Yay! this is good news. I have been hoping since Steve decided to do the night classes that he would meet someone more suited to him, a loving partner. I personally hope the writers have been setting up this romance for Steve.

I did not feel the character overstepped the bounds in her advice; I felt the writers had her as a new concerned friend who saw someone being intimidated by his girlfriend and not expressing his own wishes, important in any healthy relationship. Well, let's see if she does turn out to be a bunny boiler! Ha.

Lloyd's character has scene time limited by the actor's other serious investments of his time, and I feel this played a part in the non-success of the Mandy and Lloyd storyline. Good storylines that resonate with the audience require the actors to be fully invested.

I like her so far and hope that if the writers can contain themselves from turning her into the usual bitchy miserable female that we have seen too much of for a few years, then she will be a welcome addition to CS. I don't care if she ends up with Lloyd or Steve. Maybe she could be the one to turn Steve into man. I have always liked Steve and still do but just wish he would either rid himself of Michelle or let her know that he isn't going to tolerate her snide remarks. And the same goes for his mother (Liz is his mother?? hard to tell)

Agreed, she's a cracking gal but much better suited to Lloyd. Let's hope she at least serves as a catalyst for Steve to find a more suitable partner, having learned through Andrea what real women are like.

I am loving Andrea. I do hope that she ends up with Steve as he seems to shine when he is with her. He also has a bit of a backbone again.
It is about time that Steve has a woman who he can play with and get up to all sorts....not like grim Michelle.
Maybe she has a friend for Lloyd. lol

Love seeing Andrea on the screen she is so bright in personality and looks - the Corrie men just sway when she enters the room someone a real woman who treats men as equals and with brains not a thumb push to the brow and nagged at thankyou writers at last a real character has graced our screens - such a relief from the fishwives that are on - Michelle and Liz are turning into shrews a shame but thats Weatherfield life I suppose. Lets hope Andrea will remind the lads that there are real women out there in the cosmos who like them to think with their brains and laugh out loud as well not saunter about the place with their heads bowed and only saying yes and no and only getting excited having a drink at the local. May the Andrea rebel start.
