State of the Street - September 2011
It's been a grim month on Coronation Street. Fiz is still banged up, Carla's life is in the toilet after a drunken car crash nearly killed Stella, Frank covering up for her and then, after she finished with him just before their wedding, he raped her. Leanne and Peter's marraige teeters on the brink. Tracy is driving a wedge between Becky and Steve, ensuring no possible reconciliation could happen there, especially now she's pregnant by him again. Chris is having treatments for his brain tumour and slyly chipping away at Lloyd and Cheryl's relationship. Is anything making you smile this month? You can read more in this month's State of the Street.

Its amazing how Corrie used to have great characters (still does, but most of them are underused and very little.) And then, in an attempt to make us like them is to make us feel sorry for them by putting them in bad positions. Example, Stella doesn't do well, so lets run her over. I didn't care about the character being run over. Running her over doesn't make the character great or interesting. Leanne's miscarriage was just a plot device to get her and Stella together, due to characters not being able to make up and treat each other like normal human beings. Then Carla's rape, because of course Frank couldn't of been a nice guy, god forbid.
Its a no wonder old cast members don't like the show, and why some refuse to return. Dennis came back after 40 years and has been pushed to the background, only coming in now and again.
Please introduce more humour, where is Norris, Sylvia, etc, give us more of them, I don't give a toss about the same characters such as Becky, the overrated Sophie and Sian getting storylines all the time.
These days, Coronation Street brings a new meaning to the phrase it's grim up north. I want rounded characters with flaws, but even the ones that are not criminal are thoroughly unlikeable. We all like characters we love to hate, but Corrie is becoming stuffed full of characters just to hate. Why tune in to watch Tina Mac being spiteful, Leanne being cold, Chris being sly....
You said it, Adam Rekitt...I very much agree.
None of the characters mentioned in the blog interests me anymore. The point of a drama is that you're supposed to care what happens to them, good or bad. IMO, it was a waste of a good story line giving the rape plot to Carla and Frank. Carla was totally unsympathetic before and her ordeal hasn't really affected me. And Frank is a two dimensional comic strip villain. Where are his redeeming features? It would have been much more interesting to give this story line to Kevin and Sally.
During times like we are going through right now, all I have to say is Thank God for the boxed sets of the episodes from the Golden Era!!
I really enjoy watching Tyrone right now. He's so cute!
I think it's sensational at the moment. The Carla/Peter/Leanne saga is gripping and wonderfully played by all three actors.
