Coronation Street Weekly Update, July 4 2011

Greetings and welcome to the Coronation Street Weekly Update.  And so without any further ado, here we go with this week's Coronation Street update.

Find out more about the Coronation Street Weekly Updates and why they've been written for th'internet since 1995 at http://www.corrieweeklyupdates.btinternet.co.uk/

The worst kept secret in soap history oozed out this week when Stella revealed she was Leanne’s real mum.  Peter had found a photo of Leanne in Stella’s purse and when questioned, she crumbled by the teapot in the Rovers’ back room.  Finding out that your mother’s an ex-EastEnders slapper is hard enough for anyone to take and it all comes out at Leanne’s 30th birthday in the pub.

Leanne tells Stella that she wants her to leave, so Stella tells Steve she’s going and starts to pack up in the pub. That is, until Peter makes Stella realize she’s taking the easy way out, running out on her daughter, again, and so she decides to stay. Whether Leanne will decide to thaw towards her mum remains to be seen. Relationships remain decidedly frosty for now.

Meanwhile, Fiz gets her collar felt by the fuzz and she’s arrested and charged for murdering Colin Fishwick.  I have no sympathy, really, she should’ve been arrested months ago for marrying John in the first place. Anyway, Fiz is denied bail and little Hope is left with the Croppers to mind while Chesney cracks up on losing his sister and Fiz breaks down in her prison cell bunk. Better get used to it, we’re going to have this crying and wailing for weeks.

At Roof and Refuge, there’s a charity auction to raise charity funds.  The event’s held at Nick’s Bistro and the movers and shakers of the Weatherfield world  are bidding to win luxury items such as Deirdre’s hand made pottery vase and a month of brunches at the caff.  Carla gets her head turned by psycho Frank when he bids £500 to win her a handbag that looks like it’s only worth two bob and a half.

Anna’s worried about losing her home when she finds out the owners are selling it and she can’t get a mortgage. Never mind, Owen steps in that very same day announcing he’s bought the house and she can stay on as his tenant.  Anna’s grateful as it means by keeping the house the social services will let her keep Faye, she just doesn’t realize yet just how much of a control freak landlord Owen will be.

And in Gail’s house, it’s shopping bags at dawn as Gail and Kylie go to war in the battle to feed David. It's a bun fight at the OK Corral. In a fantastic shot, Kylie’s at one of the street with her Freshco bags and Gail’s at the other. Which woman will be first to get their goodies in the oven and into David’s tum?  Kylie of course, she’s younger, she’s faster, she’s got barbeque food.  Gail’s not best pleased, as you can imagine, and she tuts over the garden fence from Sally’s place when Kylie and David get frisky al-fresco. “Me mam loves a good moan,” says David. “It’s one of her five a day.”

And that's just about that for this week.

This week's writers were Jayne Hollinson, Julie Jones, Ellen Taylor, Jan McVerry and Mark Burt.
