Corrie weekly update - Happy New Year?

Corrie weekly updates from 1995
All the wit and warmth of Weatherfield
None of the waffle

Available from amazon.co.uk or amazon.com

Greetings and welcome to another week of words from Weatherfield. Here’s wishing every single one of you a very Happy New Year! And so, without any further ado, here we go with this week’s Coronation Street update which is short because I didn’t enjoy this week’s Corrie at all. Too many plot holes, too many characters changing personality, too many hospital scenes.  Here’s to 2018 and all that it may bring us Corrie fans, whether we want it or not.

It’s David Platt’s birthday and Shona gives him an umbrella, ella, ella.

Carla Connor returns with her cheekbones blazing but her glass of red oddly empty. Is she pregnant? No! On a diet? No! Prepare yourself for months of hospital scenes. She’s got kidney disease and Roy could be the one to save her.

Alya suffers racist abuse from the Parker Brothers at Showcase, the very people that she and Aidan are trying to do business with. The very people who could save Underworld.  There’s no denying that the Parker Brothers are a nasty piece of work in anyone’s world.

Billy falls off a cliff top after Peter Barlow lets him loose from his car boot where he’s bundled him into in his grief at finding out Billy was in the car that killed Peter’s twin, Susan. Billy survives the fall and there’s lots of hospital scenes which just about fair put me off my sprouts.  Added to Billy’s woes is a visit from Ken Barlow pretending to be Don Corleone, wrapped up in a duffel coat, whispering loudly about family secrets. Billy’s got more to worry about however when Peter rings Geraldine, Summer’s horrid grandma who determines to take Summer back home with her. But Todd’s done a runner with Summer (a hasty exit for Todd after actor Bruno Langley was sacked).

Adam tries to commit suicide as he comes to terms with the fact that Billy was in the car that killed his mum, Susan. Daniel finds him and saves him.

Best storyline of the week for this Corrie fan has been Steve and Tracy getting back together, well, sort of. Amy’s not pleased about it, but I am, even if Steve makes eyes at his ex-wife Michelle in the Bistro while he’s supposed to be on a date with Tracy.

And that’s just about that for this week.

This week little Hope and Ruby are forefront of the action after their trampoline burns down in the back yard at Fiz and Tyrone’s house. But after Fiz and Tyrone had left the girls home alone while they’re drinking in the pub, worse things could have happened, much worse.  A lighter is found amongst Ruby’s possssions, did she burn down the trampoline?  Tyrone says his daughter wouldn’t do anything like that, but Fiz is not so sure. Is Ruby a chip off the old block from her mum crazy Kirsty? Or was it Hope who set the trampoline on fire, her dad’s serial killer genes coming through?  Or maybe it was the gang of kids hanging around outside the Kabin that we saw one minute and then they were gone. One thing’s for sure, things are tense in the Fiz and Tyrone household as each blame the other for something that their girls haven’t done.

Over at the Bistro, Robert admits to Michelle that he’s skint, having gambled all their cash at the casino. Michelle takes it on herself to do something about this and forces Bistro customers to cough up for their meals in cash only. Then she fakes a break-in at the Bistro, stealing all the cash from the till. But inside the Bistro, unbeknown to Michelle, are Kate and Rana having a snog.  Kate sees the “thief” and bangs a bottle of wine over Michelle’s head.   Kate and Rana run out of the Bistro but when Kate spies Michelle later on the Street dressed head to foot in black, she realises Michelle has robbed her own business.  Michelle does a deal with Kate that if she doesn’t tell anyone that she was the thief then she’ll keep quiet about her and Rana.

Speaking of Rana, her brother Imran returned this week with a smarmy look on his face. I’m not a fan of Imran so far but I’m hoping that will change.  His marriage is falling apart after a fling he’s had with another woman.  Imran and his sister Rana are both adulterers then.  I hope Yasmeen chucks them both out.

Elsewhere, Daniel and Chesney continue to fight over Sinead, which doesn’t make any sense at all as she’s the most annoying young woman in soap.  Chesney hits himself with a brick to pretend that Daniel’s assaulted him. He also feigns food poisoning, saying that Daniel served him dodgy food in the Bistro. None of which is true, of course, but all of it masterminded by Tracy –“I burned myself on the arm with an iron so that everyone would feel sorry for me and think Charlie Stubbs had done it” Barlow.

Leanne returns this week from an extended break with her mum Stella. She signs up to a dating app, sadly not the same one that Liz and Steve have joined – WhamBam – and whoever dreamed that name up is a genius. Leanne also tells Eva she wants to move out of her flat and into one of her own.  Eva’s got more on her mind when Aidan mopes around the Rovers blaming her for ruining his life, forgetting that he was the one having the fling with Maria.

THIS WEEK’S HOSPITAL SCENE: Anna after she suffers a reaction to her anxiety pills in prison. Then she does a runner, all the way back to Roy’s flat where she reunite with Faye and Gary. There’s a wonderful scene with Faye when she dumps boyfriend Seb after she finds out the truth about Phelan and her mum. But it’s a truth that Seb isn’t ready to hear as he admires Pat Phelan so much.

And finally this week, Bethany agrees to a date with Craig after Audrey tells her that Craig reminds her of her Alfeh.

And that’s just about that for this week.

Corrie weekly update - State of them slacks!

Corrie weekly updates from 1995All the wit and warmth of WeatherfieldNone of the waffleAvailable from amazon.co.uk or amazon.com

After last week’s dark (much too dark) episodes of Coronation Street, this week started with two of the funniest episodes we’ve seen for a very long time. Both of Monday night’s episodes were penned by Jonathan Harvey, one of my favourite Corrie writers, and they brought so much joy. The dialogue was tight and funny with some wonderful lines that came out of nowhere and made us giggle on the sofa while watching. One scene between Rita and Jenny was so good we had to rewind and re-watch four times.   It’s also a short week this week in terms of episodes due to football. It’ll be back to normal next week.

And so, this week on the cobbles, Seb moves in with Sally as he recuperates from his fall off the ladder. Anna’s taken in for questioning by the cops where she’s unable to explain why one of her ear-rings was found at Todd and Adam’s solicitors office. She’s given a warning and told to stay away from Seb.

Over at the Kabin, the odious Colin makes himself at home behind the counter and upstairs in Rita’s flat. But Rita has a change of heart and wants her flat back. Is it too late to activate the get-out clause in the contract of sale? Sadly yes, but that doesn’t stop Adam from changing dates on the contract. In order to do this, Adam and Todd need access to the Kabin to switch the contracts around and so Rosie distracts Colin with her bosoms and the lads nick the keys. But while they’re in there, Colin finds them and threatens them with the cops. It’s too late though as Adam has already found some payslips in Colin’s safe, payslips that are for people who don’t actually work at the Kabin. Colin’s on the fiddle and Adam’s nabbed him. Colin knows he’s been caught out and agrees to sell the flat back.

While Rita’s been homeless she and Gemma have been living with Jenny and Johnny up in their flat at Victoria Court.  Rita’s not a pretty sight first thing in the morning and there was a truly wonderful scene where she pulls herself together in her dressing gown, whips out her make-up bag and starts making up her face. “It’s time to gild the lily,” she says to herself in the mirror. Ooh, I do love this sort of stuff.

In Jenny and Johnny’s kitchen, Gemma is looking for something in a kitchen drawer and finds a cheque for eighty thousand pounds. It’s the insurance money for Underworld and she tells Jenny about it. Jenny confronts Johnny and he says he hasn’t told her because he wants them both to retire to Spain. It’s news that Aidan isn’t best pleased to hear and he brands Jenny a gold-digger.  Johnny and Jenny show Matthew Singh around the factory as he’s interested in buying it.  Meanwhile Aidan and Alya meet with a business advisor with a view to getting a loan for their news business venture.

Mary goes much too far this week in her hell-bent campaign on getting her grips into her son, Jude.  She reports Angie to the cops for drink-driving, despite Angie only having a sip of her wine.  And the reason that Angie is driving in the first place is because baby George isn’t well and she’s taking him to hospital.  When Jude finds out what’s happened he calls his mum “a freak” which was very harsh, but then, Mary was very wrong.  It’s Dev who has a quiet word with Mary afterwards and we can only hope that she will listen and take note.

Elsewhere, Chesney is angry and jealous when he finds Sinead with Daniel and his son Joseph. Worse is to come when the so-far silent Joseph starts talking, in Portuguese, to Daniel when he’s still not said a word to his own dad.  Beth and Kirk are keen to chip in with their advice for Chesney on fathering Joseph but Ches has had enough. He tells Beth, Kirk and Craig that they need to move out so that he and Sinead have a chance to rekindle their relationship and for him to forge a bond with his son.  Ooh, I wonder where they will go?

And that’s just about that for this week.

Corrie weekly update: Bathroom Habits, Peruvian Gods and Jodrell Bank

Corrie weekly updates from 1995
All the wit and warmth of Weatherfield, none of the waffle

Available from
amazon.co.uk or amazon.com

With the CPS having decided they haven’t got enough evidence to secure a conviction against evil Nathan, Sarah goes to see Sergeant Neil Clifford to try to get him to talk to Bethany. He’s more than happy to put the frighteners on her and tells he she should tell her mam that she made everything up to get attention or there could be consequences for her family.

Craig is suspicious about Neil’s repeated visits to Bethany as they seem to be more than would be normal for victim support and they’ve not been recorded back at the station. He goes to see his friend Bethany and in a heart wrenching and harrowing scene she tells him all about how Neil is a friend of Nathan’s and she’d been forced to have sex with him. Craig wants to do the right thing but Bethany says she won’t be believed and it could put her family in danger.

He goes to see his boss anyway about leaving his job without saying why but everyone at the station says that it’s just a wobble and he should give it a couple of weeks to think it over. But he decides to confront Neil who pretends that he was working undercover for CID looking into Nathan’s case. Craig’s not daft though and doesn’t believe him, though Neil spins him a yarn about the rape, saying he had put Bethany to bed, drunk and stoned but nothing happened and she’s confused and making it all up.

Gary and Sarah are in search of other victims of Nathan and tag along with Yasmeen and Rana when they go to help out at a drop-in centre. Sarah asks around with no success but as she’s leaving she bumps into Shona who is with a young girl who runs off. Shona wants to go after the girl, Lara, who she met while sleeping rough, as she’s been involved with Nathan but Shona’s been injured and they take her to hospital to be checked out and ring Billy the vicar, who agrees Shona can come back to stay at number 11.

It’s the first anniversary of Kylie’s murder and the rest of the Platt family and Gemma are busy commemorating it with a picnic in the back garden and a giant game of snakes and ladders. David the dog escapes out onto the street and when David not the dog goes out to fetch him, he sees Shona arriving over at Eileen’s house. He goes ballistic at Billy for bring the mother of Kylie’s murderer back to the Street and tells him to keep her away from his family. Sarah has a heart to heart with her brother about Shona and knows that he’s still attracted to her. He can’t get over the fact that it was her son who ruined his life but Sarah says that Shona can’t be held responsible for the despicable act of her son.

Erica tells Liz that her love life with Dev is lacking any fizz, Dev’s idea of a romantic day out is a trip to Jodrell Bank. Meanwhile Kev is getting increasingly sick of the lack of attention from Anna because he loves her so much. So much in fact that when Erica proposes an evening of rumpy pumpy at a local hotel, he puts his glad rags and a gallon of after shave on under his overalls and heads over there. Anna had overheard Kev talking to Rosie about his problems and decides she needs to do something about it so gets dolled up ready for his return from work. When he doesn’t appear she rings him, declares her undying love for him and tells him she wants to sort thing out between them. Sitting in his car outside the hotel he tells her he’s on a callout, presumably he has a big end to sort out, but he leaves the hotel and heads home to Anna.

When he gets home, Anna knows he’s been up to no good by the smell and the clothes and he admits he was tempted and nearly went through with it but he really does love Anna and is truly sorry. He ends up sleeping on the sofa and while Anna is still upset by his betrayal she wants to make a new start. Anna has worked out who the other woman is and invites Erica for a drink at the Bistro. She warns her off her man and leaves her chastened and with a bill for a bottle of fizz. Erica is still bored with Dev though and tries to dump him but he thinks they just see too much of each other at home and at work. Erica decides to stop working in the shop and, as only seems to happen in Corrie, within a matter of hours secures herself a job at the Bistro.

Sean turns up at the Kabin with a letter from No. 3 which is addressed to Mr & Mrs N Cole, not only that but it’s Norris’s writing on the envelope. Mary steams it open to find that it’s a confirmation of his entry for a Mr & Mrs competition. Mary takes the huff, refusing to let Norris explain himself but he tells Rita that he wants to win it for Mary as the prize is a round the world trip and she could use it to go and see her son in South Africa. Mary eventually gets on board and the pair of them go into overdrive learning each other’s needs, idiosyncrasies and bathroom habits.

Eva wants a house with a garden for her phantom baby in her continuing vengeance against Aidan. He hasn’t a clue whether he’s coming or going especially as he no knows about his father’s MS diagnosis. He can’t afford anything more than buying their flat from Dev and even that will be a stretch.

An old friend of Gary’s from the army turns up flashing the cash and tries to convince him to come and work with him in Ukraine doing private security work. It’s a risky business but as Joe demonstrates by leaving a wodge of notes in Gary’s wallet, it pays very well. But Gary’s got his family to think about nowadays and is very cold towards the idea.

The end of an era dawns. Liz is packing things up in the pub, ready to move into a flat with Steve once the sale of the Rovers to Peter and Toyah goes through. She’s got herself a new job as a receptionist at the medical centre and Sean gives her an effigy of a Peruvian god for good luck. She brings all her customer service skills from years of working in pubs and bars and she’s rubbish at it. She’s too chatty with the punters, can’t work the booking system and is caught vaping on duty. It can’t last long.

Corrie weekly update: Mithering, Cake Tongs and Tiggsy

Corrie weekly updates from 1995
All the wit and warmth of Weatherfield
None of the waffle

Available from
amazon.co.uk or amazon.com

There’s an armed police raid this week on Coronation Street! Tracy and Amy go on the run and Tracy bundles Rob Donovan into the boot of her car. Amy thinks she and her mum are going on holiday. Rob thinks he’s going on the lam with Tracy via his underworld mate Tiggsy. Only Tracy knows that both her lover and her daughter are in the car. Well, that secret doesn’t stay quiet for long. After a week spent moping around a cottage in the middle of nowhere with no phone signal, Amy’s bored and heads out to a phone box to call Steve.

Everyone back on the Street is worried about Tracy and Amy’s whereabouts and they’re reported as missing, even turning up on the local news. Amy walks in on her mum snogging Rob and finds out the real reason they’re shacked up in the countryside. And it’s at that moment that sirens are heard and the cops close in on them all. Tracy tells Rob to drive off with Amy and gives herself up to the cops, telling them she’s been hiding out because she was the one who attacked Ken. Oh, what a tangled web they weave.  Adam, meanwhile, is released by the cops and threatened by Roy in the cafe with a pair of cake tongs.

Elsewhere this week, Nathan plays with Bethany’s emotions something awful. It’s like she’s a yoyo at the end of a string that he’s pulling towards him and then pushing away, and all the while all Bethany wants is someone to love. Things take an even nastier turn when Nathan throws a party at which it’s expected that Bethany will go to bed with his mate Neil. She can’t understand why Nathan doesn’t stop Neil from leading her into the bedroom and is hurt and confused. It’s horrible stuff. But then Nathan rewards Bethany for sleeping with his mate by proposing to her with a big, show-off ring.

Back home on the Street, Sarah and Gary find out what’s happened when Gary spots that Bethany’s changed her relationship status online to ‘Engaged’.  There’s an emotional scene in the tanning salon when Sarah goes to see Bethany and takes her an engagement card. It’s Audrey’s idea, she tells Sarah not to push Bethany and Nathan apart as that would only make Bethany more determined to stay with him. But after Sarah leaves the salon, Bethany breaks down in tears, while behind her Neil returns and this time, he’s got another fella in tow.

There’s bother at the Bistro now that Michelle is in charge – and she moves in to Robert’s flat with him  too. She cancels the Bistro’s contract with Streetcars to spite Steve and then decides she wants to try new dishes on the menu. Zeedan’s keen to impress and rustles up Indian street food delights, but while Robert and Michelle say they like his work, he’s upset as he’s not getting a pay rise.  Speaking of Zeedan, it was good to see his mum Yasmeen back this week too.
Meanwhile, Rosie and Sophie come face to face with Sally’s sister, their aunt Gina this week. But far from confirming that Gina is the one who has been stalking Sally, it makes me think that this Leah one is the stalker, not Gina, after all.  It turns out that Gina has a bipolar condition, which Leah reminds her of and tells her that’s the reasons he can’t remember stalking Sally. But is Leah really the one behind it all?

Billy and Todd have much on their minds as they discuss whether they can take on dying Drew’s daughter Summer. Billy wants to keep his word to Drew and take in his god-daughter, but Todd is a man who still lives with his mum isn’t ready to take on anything more than a new haircut right now.

And finally this week. Eva was supposed to attend a business lunch with Aidan, but they have a falling out after she talks about wedding frocks non-stop and he’s not interested. Frankly, neither are we, fantastic as it would be to see Eva go bridezilla, these two should go nowhere near an aisle in a church. Eva drops out of the lunch and into her negligee trying to tempt Aidan into a bit of how’s-yer-father when he returns from the lunch. But Aidan has already eaten and had his desserts too, with Maria, after they get comfy on the sofa again and do, you know, it.  Yes, Maria has stepped in for Eva at the lunch with Aidan where she gets a bit tipsy and pretends to be Eva, even copying her laugh. After their rumpy-pumpy on the sofa, Maria tells Aidan she’ll be his lover. She’s got no self-respect, that Maria, never has had. This remember, was the woman who married Liam Connor even though she knew he loved Carla. It can only end in tears.

And that’s just about that for this week.

Corrie weekly update – Tequila, babies and men behaving badly

Corrie weekly updates from 1995
All the wit and warmth of Weatherfield
None of the waffle

Available from
amazon.co.uk or amazon.com

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned in Coronation Street and Michelle is that woman this week. She demands a divorce from Steve and 50% of what he owns, including the pub.  Liz tells Steve that she’ll sell her share too and they decide to put the Rovers up for sale.

It’s Rita’s (85th… sssh) birthday this week but no-one remembers, not Norris, or Gemma or Jenny.  Norris finally realises the significance of the date and treats Rita to a drink in the Rovers just as Michelle goes into meltdown. Liz and Steve are locked out of their own pub as Michelle gives free drinks to those inside in a lock-in.  Making the most of Michelle’s marital mess Rita has champagne for her birthday.

Robert’s predatory nature surfaced again this week and I’m not liking it one little bit. Realising Michelle’s on her own in Maria’s flat, he pops round with a board game and a bottle of booze.  If the booze had been white wine, I might have thought he was offering the hand of friendship and a shoulder to cry on. If it had been red wine, I might have thought he was after a bit of snogging on the sofa with Mrs McD. But the bottle of booze was tequila and the board game was Scrabble so I think Robert had more on his mind that getting a triple word score.  A heart-breaking scene ended this week’s episodes when Michelle saw  Steve bent over Oliver’s pram, giving his baby a kiss in front of Leanne. “I’ll get that bitch for this,” hissed Michelle.

Meanwhile, Steve tells Leanne he wants to be part of Oliver’s life, after Michelle ups and leaves him. Leanne isn’t happy about this and asks Peter to have a word with Steve, which he tries to do and fails.  Nick’s not best pleased that Steve’s worming his way into their lives but it’s what Steve wants and as Steve’s the dad, that’s what Steve will get. However, I’m not convinced that Steve is actually the baby’s dad and I think it might be Peter’s.  Cast your minds back to June last year, and with the episode review on Corriepedia, Leanne and Simon went to Portsmouth to stay with Peter.  Just saying.

Mary reveals this week she once worked as a blacksmith. Is there anything this funny little woman hasn’t done? She flirts with Adam Barlow in the florists this week when he comes in to help Tracy.  Adam’s got business on his mind when he reads in the paper about a local drug dealer – he’s still got Rosie’s cocaine to sell, you’ll recall.

Speaking of Rosie, she was whistled at this week by a builder on the building site. Yes, it appears that builders have moved in at the site of the old Nuttall’s brewery and they’re renovating it to become…  a new brewery! This has come out of nowhere but clearly indicates a new set for when Corrie goes to six episodes per week.  I’m not complaining though, as Gary Windass is working on the building site. Anyway, Sally’s not happy that the builder has been whistling and harassing Rosie.  Sally stages a protest with a loudspeaker, shouting down sexism in the Street. Supported by Rita – who chains herself to the building site in protest – along with Erica, Rana, Yasmeen and Brian, Sally creates an obstruction to the building site in protest at the builder’s remarks.  Sally feels she needs to make a stand to help Rosie as she feels she’s let her daughter down after Rosie tells her that modelling life in London wasn’t all that. Rosie reveals to her mum that her career had soured and she had no work, no boyfriend, no home - and she got sacked too.

Over at Roy’s Rolls, Gail loses her purse and blames Shona for stealing. The purse turns up later at Gail’s house but she doesn’t apologise to Shona. She does, however, don her pinny in the café and help Shona serve. I like to see Gail working in the café, it was a throwback to the days when she used to work there with Alma and I’d like to see more.

Sinead finds out she’s pregnant this week. She tells aunty Beth it can’t be Chesney’s kid as they haven’t had you-know-what since before Christmas. Daniel finds the pregnancy test in the flat and he and Sinead sit down to write a list of pros and cons about having a baby. There are lots of cons on their list but only one pro “Cos it might be nice?” warbles soppy Sinead. Ken’s not happy about Daniel’s developing relationship with the ‘intellectually inferior’ Sinead so heaven only knows what he’ll say when he finds out she’s up the duff with a Barlow baby.

And finally this week, Bethany gets a contraceptive implant. It’s clear evil Nathan’s grooming plan is coming on as he wants, with Mel’s help. But what he hasn’t reckoned on is Bethany’s mum Sarah nicking her daughter’s phone, taking Nathan’s number and giving him a ring to invite him round for tea.

And that’s just about that for this week.

Corrie weekly update - with added Packham punch

Corrie weekly updates from 1995
All the wit and warmth of Weatherfield
None of the waffle

Available from amazon.co.uk or amazon.com

It’s another heart breaking week for Steve and Michelle. Michelle’s grief is compounded when her body reminds her that she was preparing for birth and she starts to lactate.  Steve takes her out for lunch to the Bistro but she isn’t ready, not yet, and she gets very drunk. After a stand-up slanging match with everyone in the Bistro, Michelle staggers out into the night and disappears. Back at the Rovers, a search party goes out to look for missing Michelle and it’s Robert who finds her, high up on a bridge over the viaduct.

Michelle’s ready to jump, to end it all and kill her grief and it’s Robert who saves her, talking her back into safety. In the state that she’s in, Michelle moves in for a kiss from Robert, but he has the decency to back off, knowing she’s in turmoil. The two of them walk through the night together, to the chapel of rest, where Ruari’s funeral is due to take place the next day.  Steve and Michelle want to be alone at the funeral and Liz’s pain is clear to see. “I wanted to say goodbye to him too,” she tells Leanne with tears in her eyes.  In the back yard of the Rovers, Liz plants a rose bush in memory to her grandson, as Michelle and Steve walk out of the chapel of rest underneath a rainbow in the sky. It was such a wonderful episode, sad and hopeful all at the same time.

While Steve and Michelle are out at the funeral, Liz takes delivery of a Moses basket for the baby that she’d ordered some time ago.  Liz offers it to Leanne, who accepts it, but then in walks Nick with the same basket for their baby. This causes a whole stream of arguments between Nick and Leanne, as he reckons Liz will be after their baby now she’s lost one grandchild. Leanne tells Toyah what’s happened and reveals all about Steve being her baby’s dad.

Nick’s furious with Liz and the whole baby situation and he plans to move away to Edinburgh with Leanne and Simon. He confides all this to Toyah when she catches him online in the Bistro looking at schools to move Simon to. Well, Toyah then tells Peter that Nick’s planning to move and take Simon with him. Peter’s straight round to give Nick what-for and Nick thinks he’s got the upper hand until Peter tells him he knows that Steve’s Leanne’s baby’s dad, not him.  Peter warns Nick that if he tries anything underhand again with Simon, he’ll let that secret slip on the Street.  Meanwhile, Steve and Michelle head to Ireland to stay with mammy and daddy Connor.

Elsewhere this week, Cathy starts work in the kebab shop after Gemma offers her a job without Dev’s knowledge. When Dev finds out he has the usual hissy fit but then offers Cathy part-time hours in the kebab shop and part-time hours in the corner shop as Erica’s gone to look after her mum.

Upstairs in Roy’s flat, Brian moves in after an altercation with Norris over his house rules.  Roy isn’t best pleased about this, at first, and tells Brian he wants him to move out as soon as he’s found somewhere else to live. But once Brian settles in and cooks Roy his famous spaghetti bolognaise with the Packham Punch sauce, Roy tells him he can stay as his tenant.  In a wonderful scene, Brian greets this news with a smile and  newspaper under his arm as he undoes his flies in Roy’s kitchen and heads to the loo.  This could be a lot of fun.

Phelan tells Luke there’s been a flood in the flat. This gives Phelan enough time to clean Andy’s blood from the flat carpet but when it takes some cleaning up, Phelan floods the flat instead and rips the carpet up. Eileen’s not happy that her new husband is spending so much time working rather than concentrating on her, but Phelan’s got things to do, people to see, murder to commit. He’s a busy man, Eileen.

Ken tells the Barlow clan that if he has another stroke he wants a Do Not Resuscitate order put in place. This is news that depresses them all but they accept Ken’s wishes.  Meanwhile, Adam talks Alya into giving him the Underworld keys and password so that he can check through the files to see if there’s any trace of any paperwork that says he’s still entitled to his share of the knicker empire.  While Adam’s in the office trying to crack the computer system, in walk Johnny and Aidan. Adam’s been set up by Alya and Aidan gives Adam a legal notice to sign over any rights in the factory for the princely sum of £1.  Adam’s skint, and when Daniel pays him his share of the rent money he pockets it instead of paying it to Dev. When Dev comes knocking for the rent, Adam fobs him off and then sets his sights on Ken and his will.

Finally this week it was Izzy’s birthday and the factory girls celebrate in the pub. It was also Tracy Barlow’s 40th birthday but only Luke and Daniel turn up for her birthday lunch in the Bistro. There’s a new waitress at the Bistro, a young woman called Nancy who recognises Luke. There’s history between them and Nancy ends up getting sacked when Tracy makes a lunge for Nancy and the two women scrap. There were lovely scenes between Tracy and Luke as the two of them decide they quite like each other after all, despite Tracy coming clean about having murdered in the past. Ah well, it takes all sorts I suppose.

And that’s just about that for this week.
