Although co-blogger Matt feels that Sian should be put to work, there's clearly trouble between Sian and Sophie brewing as we've been seeing lately.
There's a really great blog-rant about Coronation Street's Sophie and Sian over here on AfterEllen.com that you'll probably love as much as I do! The author of the piece isn't too happy with Sophie's attitude lately but probably laughed as much as I did at Rosie last week!

This was great stuff. Didnt actors once have to have good diction? I am not talking accent wise but be able to be understood? Either send Brooke Vincent to a voice coach or replace her. Its a joke.
I agree with that - couldn't understand a word she said. Shouldn't you at least be able to enunciate?

I love those recaps, been reading them for months :D
Brooke's voice is perfectly clear to me and I am partially deaf.
You can't do a soap set in Manchester without Manchester accents in it - it wouldn't be right.
The reason why some people find some accents difficult is, however, interesting. I have a theory that it is to do with vowel shifts. (There is a very good article on in Wikipedia). For instance to my London ears some American accents are unintelligible as are most Candian ones. The sift is in the position of the tongue at the beginning of the vowel, i the South of England the tongue tends to be higher in the mouth at the beginning of each vowel than it is in the north. Combine this with that nasality which is associated with former industrial areas and you have Brooke's accent, indeed her whole mode of speech.
Hm, well I'm Australian (from New Zealand) and I can understand her perfectly, no strain at all. All except Sian's name, sometimes they say "Shaan", sometimes "Sean", sometimes it almost actually sounds like "Cheyanne". Anyway Brooke's voice doesn't seem hard to understand at all, especially compared to some accents from the UK.
I can understand her perfectly. I love their story and looking forward to them getting more screen time!
When I started to watch Corrie back in 1966 ( in Canada) I could only pick out one word in ten.If Ray Langton hadn't been so gorgeous (and my grandmother made us watch it because she was English)I would have given up a long time ago. I find the accent has mellowed over the years. By the way, now I watch it with my grandchildren, and the hot thing for them is Keiran.
