Dead Corrie cat goes up for auction

This may just be the most bizarre blog post I'm ever going to write. The cremated remains of Frisky the Coronation Street cat are up for auction on Thursday 22 July.

The auction lot consists of a sealed wooden casket with small brass plaque together with an accompanying certificate by the Elysian Fields Pet Crematorium confirming that Frisky was cremated on 17th November 2000, plus compliments slip, plus a group of nine postally unused colour publicity postcards of Frisky and all but three showing the cat with Coronation Street actors, plus a signed colour photograph of the newsreader Martyn Lewis holding Frisky and reading a copy of his book 'Cats in the News'

In 1990 Frisky beat off 5,000 other cats to become the latest feline star in the new montage. From then until 2001 Frisky appeared in Corrie's opening credits, crouching on the roof of Jack Duckworth's pigeon loft. Frisky got to meet the actors on the show and until his death in 2000 at the age of 14 he earned thousands of pounds for charities by making personal appeareances.

Chris Albury of Dominic Winter Auctioneers said: “It is certainly one of the quirkiest lots we have had for auction this year, ranking up alongside a lock of Jane Austen's hair and one of Napoleon's teeth."

Bidding starts at £150. Find out more here.

It's truly weird! Sounds like someone is desperate to cash in on the Corrie name. Or just plain desperate.

Eughhhhhhhhh!

For some reason upon reading this information, it brought a picture of Alfred Hitchcock's film, Psycho, to mind.

So some Corrie fan, who never owned the cat, is going to place the Urn containing the cremated contents in their home?

Cue Psycho theme tune:
Da da.. Da da... Da da...
Ekk! Ekk! Ekk! (that's the knife slashing through shower curtain).

Will the new owner pat the urn and talk to it I wonder? The Bates Motel re-opens its doors once again....

Why did they not go the whole hog and get Frisky's ashes made into a lovely tasteful glass bowl, as some choose to do nowadays?
