I was planning to go and see the NLP Theatre Company's production of Des Dillon's new play, Blue Hen, this week at my local theatre, and review it for the blog as it stars Charles Lawson, who played Corrie's Jim McDonald.
But, when I phoned the box office to buy tickets, I was informed that the play had been cancelled. This was due, so I was told, to the star Charles Lawson pulling out of small venues, i.e. those which hold less than 70 people. I have emailed NLP Theatre Company expressing my disappointment and asking if they can shed any more light on this. I see on their website that the full, original list of dates is still there with no details of cancellations, so anyone planning to see the play should definitely check with their venue first.
I'd been looking forward to seeing a play in my local area, which sounded like it would be a great night out - written by a terrific writer, and starring Charles Lawson, who I am sure would have given a dynamic performance. I know for sure of two Scottish venues which have been affected by this, and I suspect there are more. If I receive further information, I will blog it as and when.
