Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 29 May

Evening Corrie fans, it’s Kelly here with your Friday night review.

David takes a call telling him that Shona wants to come for a visit but doesn’t want him in the house while she’s there. Arriving at No.8, Shona looks discombobulated. She can remember where the teabags are kept but doesn’t seem to know Gail and has no idea who Harry is. I mean I wouldn’t beat yourself up about that Shona love, I reckon seven million Corrie viewers would have trouble picking that kid out of a line-up!

As his wife sits just metres away, David is at Roy’s desperate to see her. I’m quite surprised at his lack of deviousness in this situation. As Shona apparently doesn’t remember any of the Platt’s couldn’t he have just have had a shave, put on one of Gail’s frocks and pretended he was Great Aunt Davinia (or have I watched too many Ealing comedies in lockdown?)

Meanwhile Alya visits Yasmeen in prison. She tries to convince her she was abused and acted in self-defence in stabbing the Hideous Waste of Organs (H-WOO) she’s married to, but Yasmeen firmly believes that she is in the wrong. Could she be about to plead guilty? H-WOO himself is out of hospital. He tells Tim that he doesn’t want to live with him and Sally as he’d prefer to go home and destroy some evidence recuperate.

Unfortunately for him, Alya and Ryan have changed the locks and he finds himself on the doorstep having an undignified slanging match. He's very convincing at playing the victim until Ryan taunts him with ‘jiggle it Geoff’ and you see the dark rage flash across his face. It’s totally missed by his dim (though possibly also gaslit) son, but maybe not by Sally.

C’mon Sal, I can totally see you as Weatherfield’s answer to Miss Marple, solving crimes the police are too useless to work out. That hidden camera may be totally invisible to a four-man police forensics team but I reckon you’d have found it in about five minutes flat without breaking a sweat.

Oliver is also out of hospital but still seems very disorientated and unable to speak. Leanne has apparently chosen to counter this by shouting ‘OLIVER, OLIVER’ in his face at roughly two-second intervals. For the love of God woman will you give the kid (and us) a rest.

In other news, Dev is called to his children’s school over Aadi-New-Head getting into a fight with Corey. When the Head tries to take the high ground about violence, Dev goes a bit Harper Valley PTA (it’s a great song, have a listen) and points out that the school has done nothing to protect his daughter from abuse.

Also, the Bailey family get to stop having ‘issues’ and instead get a holiday paid for by James and, in Michael's case, a possible rekindling of a romance with Grace.

Finally, Shona goes out of the No.8 back door and immediately goes missing. Everyone panics that she’s done a runner but I think it’s more likely she just remembered that she really likes chocolate hobnobs and popped over to Dev’s to root around in Evelyn’s bargain bucket.

That's all folks. What did you think of tonight's episode? Let me know in the comments or on twitter @mskelstar. See y'all in a fortnight.

I know he’s only a small child but the kid playing Oliver needs to be told to stop looking at the lights, camera or his mum. No wonder ‘Leanne’ kept shouting “Oliver” to get him to look at the other actors.

I think the whole point is he doesn't look at Leanne so they filmed him separately so he would not respond, he did smile at the nurse and closed his eyes so she could shine a light in them
