Hollyoaks actor James Atherton is joining Coronation Street in a guest role. The actor will play an ex-boyfriend of Steph Britton called Jamie.
Jamie is also a mate of Steph's brother Luke as they used to race stock cars together.
James Atherton previously played serial killer Will Savage on Hollyoaks.

Mmm, casting directors going for the looks again, are they? Where are the ordinary people now in this programme?
You dont have to watch hollyoaks to know its a teenage soap with a bunch of untrained glamour models who were cast for their looks rather than their talent. Looks like someone at corrie has decided we need to get more teenagers watching to increase viewers.
Utilize the present cast without adding more. Who is running the asylum?

Re anon 13.27. Corrie have cast an "ordinary person". Sean Ward. He worked in a burger establishment in Manchester prior to Corrie, but no one seems to like him either

Re anon 16.04.Rubbish? That's unfair on anon 15.47.It's true, he DID work in a very trendy burger place. No Hollyoaks appearances prior to Corrie which I think is what previous posts were implying

I'd rather have some new older characters tbh. There's no-one there to fill the growing spaces when Rita, Emily, Norris et al don't appear.
Had to check definition of 'uber' online. Was only aware of the taxi usage, well done. Susie is a delight and has a real sense of cat humor.
It's a guest appearance. I wonder if the tabloids will be screaming that he got sacked and won't be asked back? ;)
As Tvor points out, it's just a guest-casting, not a permanent appointment. Characters of this sort have been a necessity since the very first episode (Ken's first girlfriend, Susan Cunningham, for example) Their function is to facilitate storylines for existing characters. A few such 'one-shot' characters make such an impression on the viewers that they are asked back longterm (Fred Elliot would be an example; or Raquelle) I find it amusing that many of the people who complain that the Street is too insular, with all its serial bed-hopping (looking at you, Jason Grimshaw!) and residents' ability to find employment withing 100 yards of their front doors, also decry new casting, complaining that existing characters are under-used (although I'm in full agreement on this latter point). The actor in question here is being introduced to enable a story thread for Luke and Steph, two characters often thought to be underused and whom viewers would like to see developed. But how could utilising existing staff have served this plotline? Emily is revealed to have a hitherto unsuspected passion for stock car racing? Steph had an undisclosed but passionate fling with Norris a couple of years back? (You can see why she'd keep that one quiet ...)
