The title of this blog post is a rhetorical question, of course. The spirit of Blanche is truly living on in Amy Barlow on Coronation Street, and it's a joy to watch.
Actress Elle Mulvaney, who plays Amy, has come on leaps and bounds in the past year or so. She's a young actress who can deliver some really good drama and now comedy too. And as her great-grandmother was one of the battle-axes of the Street, the geriatric genes live on in young Amy.
The writers are clearly having fun giving Blanche-like dialogue to Amy these days and as a fan, it's great to see the spirit of Blanche living on.
With her £40,000 inheritance from grandma Deirdre's life assurance policy, Amy knows she's got that money behind her. She's also bright enough to know that her mum Tracy will try to take it off her. It could be an interesting future for Amy Barlow and definitely one to watch!

She's fabulous and her character is coming on in leaps and bounds - I hope she's around for a very long time!
Could not be happier with these scenes! Young Elle is an amazing actress and I really hope she's stays in the shows for many years to come. It's all well and good to give someone lines, but her delivery of them is truly fantastic to watch!
Yes Amy is going to give her mother a run for her money....Blanch was her Great Grandmother btw and she is showing signs of having her acid tongue..lol
No, she's not turning into Blanche, the writers are trying to make her into Blanche. Sorry, but she's not that good an actress.
I loved your great grandma Amy....you are truly a chip-off-the-old block....well done girl !!
Elle's delivery of her lines is pretty awesome for someone so young. I think I noticed a surge of energy after Annie/Deirdre died both in how Elle presented herself and a focus on the comedic side of her storylines. I'm guessing that she was very close to her Corrie Granny in real life, after all she apparently spoke movingly at Anne's funeral. I think she's both a bit like Deirdre and Blanche, but quickly becoming a memorable character in her own right.
How old is Simon supposed to be? He seems so much more babyish than Amy. I think that Elle is a very good actress. The boy who plays Simon not so much.
