Tonight's episode was fantastic, and I really enjoyed it. Though one thing surprised me, since when does Tina's flat have access to the builder's yard balcony?
So I decided to root through my photos of when I visited the set a few years back, and
it turns out that that door has actually been there the whole time, though we've never seen anyone using it before now.
Jason might want to think about closing that door off, since the builder's yard seems like the most unsafe place on the street, especially when a little tampering by someone like David Platt can send someone falling to the cobbles below, as he found out himself a few years back.

Yes, when we saw the previews of the fall scene, assumed it was in the parts of the builders' yard we'd seen for a long time. Only when Tina went from the flat to the balcony, I realised it was a new location for us.
Re tonight's episode, anyone notice when Anna and Owen came in, the house lights were already on, but no-one was home - or they'd have come down when Ann and Owen started arguing?! Money to burn, those Windasses.
No, i don't buy it. That door you see in the photo is the one from the office to the balcony unless the flat door goes into the office. I suppose, as it is sold part and parcel with the yard that it kind of does make sense but you're right, we've never seen it ever ever ever used before or even mentioned. A bit too convenient.
Consider it a bonus with the new set. Noone is complaining about the extra window in the Rovers or the new outside door to Roy's apartment.
The builder's yard area does have a lot of unexplained doors everywhere, I mean heck, there's that door downstairs that said "Will's Builder's Merchants" the weird garage/gate place that has never been used, and the little office hut on the ground floor too.
I was so distracted by the balcony issue, I had to re-watch the Rob/Tina scenes. I've been following spoilers and couldn't see how Tina was going to get from her flat to the builders yard with only a few minutes left of the episode. I see now I wasn't alone.
I like all of the above answers, but I'm enough of an anorak I'll look forward to any fan who gets the real structural solution. :)
So, was Tina renting from Owen, then Jason/Tony, the new owners?
Oh, yes, I remember David falling from the balcony back then! I don't seem to recall him sustaining injuries as serious as Tina though. Of course the set was more miniaturized back then, eh? Snerk.
The sudden access from Tina's flat was an unwanted distraction; as has been said, we'd never seen this door used before. It would have been better if the writers had seeded it a few weeks ago - if we'd seen, as Rob joked, Tina having her "coffee and croissant" out there. Or perhaps Steph using it as a place to top up her tan. A bit like before the tram crash, when all of a sudden we started seeing a CGI tram going over the viaduct and the noise was played in the background in exterior scenes.
Yes The flat was Owen's, he let it to Tina when she became a surrogate for his daughter Smelloid

'Just saying said' don't assume about the window thing as it grates on me every time I see it! I am still getting over the switching of Sallys stairs from one end of the lounge to another a few years back!- Micky
This is all ridiculous. Health and Safety would decree that you couldnt have a balcony rail low enough to fall over. Tony (as the new owner) could be prosecuted!
