Let's join hands and weep for Leanne Barlow. The same Leanne that went from being a teenage slapper to coke-snorting barmaid to tart. Now she is a sinned-aginst houewife in an M & S mac. Weep for her.
Or should we? From the embers of a not-so-hot marriage, Peter rises like a phoenix. Admittedly a gaudily tatooed phoenix but hey, you can't have everything. What he does have though is the lovely Carla, once mistaken in the Rovers for a post-op transexual. Raven-haired, red wine stained, you can imagine her wallowing in a vat full of Boddingtons. She's a bit hard-faced, not in the least bit girly and an alcoholic. Who better to share this burden then than Peter Barlow, knocking on fifty, former owner of a Scottish accent which disappeared only to be replaced by the northern brogue we've come to know and love. Peter Barlow - alcoholic, bigamist, chain-smoker, wimp.
The Barlow-Connor relationship is a disaster in the making. This worrying twosome will prop each other up through the wreck that is bound to be their life together. Scary Simon will have to contend with this most un-motherly of mother figures while Dad reels around with a vodka bottle. Let's be honest, this really is not what dreams are made of.
What of Leanne? Well, let's go for the most obvious possible storyline. I'll bet you a ha'penny to a hotpot that she will discover that she's pregnant fairly soon. This, of course, will throw Peter into even more doubt and will call for 'a decision to be made'. Will he opt for the Les Dawson-voiced strumpet at the knicker factory or harridan-in-the-making Leanne?
A nation shuffles closer to its TV screens.

These are the kind of reviews that I like. Dry, tongue-in-cheek, cynical even.
Yeah, me too.
I like Carla as a character. I love that she has been through so much and she's not anywhere near perfect. She's a home wrecker and a bit of a schemer.
I think that her and Peter are more alike than Leanne and Peter. And that she understands him more.
The relationship is doomed, but I think that's why I like it. It will implode in dramatic fashion and it will make damn good tv, with Leanne watching from the sidelines, smug grin in place!
Leanne will be coming back soon, Simon will no doubt want to be with her, so Peter and Carla's relationship will be put to the test. I for one hope they stay together. It would be great to see them involved in more storylines as a couple.
Brilliant post, love it!
There is a lot of hate for the couple, but I hope they stay together. However good actors rarely find happiness on the cobbles and only have a hope of a happy ending when they leave (take Kat Kelly for example).
Good luck to them... they're gonna need it!
I like Carla and i like PEter but as others have said and i agree, they're a disaster as a couple. They can say they understand each other and have all that in common but it's precisely that which will drag them down. I also agree that Leanne will come over pregnant, it's a classic plot development. Once again, Carla will have to back off her man like she did with Maria and Liam. It will, however, be an interesting storyline all the way because i like all the characters involved.
I love both Peter and Carla as characters. Even though it's going to be tough for them, I think they can make it work. Yes, they're both flawed and damaged, but they have such a deep understanding of each other. They've already supported each other through a lot, and with this emotional connection for such a long time already, I think they'd be amazing together as a long-standing couple.
I really hope Leanne doesn't come back pregnant though - it would be too similar to the Liam story. I'd much rather the tensions came from inside the relationship, and from Simon and others on the street, but that they work through it and end up stronger. And Leanne would ultimately be much happier with someone who really loves her, and really wants a family in the way she does.
I can't see Peter and Carla lasting. While it was hush hush it was all dangerous and sexy, but once out in the open, it will fizzle out and Leanne will come back to Peter and Si. Carla always wants what she can't have and once she gets it...she doesn't want it anymore. Peter will be just another notch on her bedpost.
Great acting throughout the whole rape trial esp. Leanne and Carla's character's. I cannot wait for Sally smug smile to be wiped right off her face. Great Corrie this week!!
Agree with Anna and TVOR. And my heart breaks for little Simon.
I hope Leanne does come back pregnant, refuses to get back with him under any circumstances, finds herself a nice new fella and rubs Peter's nose right in it!!
Brilliant post. Made me laugh out loud.
Agree, this is a good take on the situation, Clinkers! Cynically dry is the best way to see this disaster of a relationship. Though fun to watch. Shared failings is not a great foundation for lerve, especially with Carla still drinking, in large quantities at times.
There's gonna be a lot of twists and turns in the coming weeks and months. I don't know if that makes them a classic Corrie couple. Perhaps not with such epic proportions of deceit & pain. Wonder who will move into the flat above the bookies. There be ghosts there!
I'd like for Carla to be happy! She deserves it!
Great post. I feel a bit like Harry Hill, I like Carla and I like Peter......you fill in the rest.
I hope Dev has lots of bottles of plonk in as those two are gonna drink him dry!!
I love Peter and Carla. How refreshing to see two gorgeous people together. We've seen their attraction to each other progress for over a year. It would be so cliche if Leanne were to find herself pregnant how predictable-if she were I hope she falls down the stairs again. I hope Leanne either finds someone else or goes away permanently.
Peter and Carla, love 'em.
I love Carla and Peter. I love their entertaining, tempestuous and passionate relationship. I've got no idea how long the writers plan to keep them together but I hope they stay together for a long time.
There's never a dull moment with them and frankly, unlike most soap couples who sadly run out of steam the moment the writers make them an official couple, Peter and Carla are still absolutely brilliant to watch together. Very entertaining and very believable.
