Lloyd's Northern Soul record gets nicked - by Andrea

Lloyd's a man who likes his music and his vinyl collection means the world to him.  Next week on Coronation Street, one of his favourite Northern Soul records goes missing - and it's been stolen by Andrea to pay off her daughter Jess' debt.

Inside Soap magazine reveal that there's a twist in the tale to come in this story after the couple split up.

We already know that Craig Charles and Hayley Tamaddon (Lloyd and Andrea) have filmed their final scenes.

However, they will also both be featuring in the live episode to be shown in September, so I'm not quite sure what's going on there and how that will work out.

Never cared for Northern Soul, myself. I was more of a prog rock chap. Still, selling off a fellow's prized vinyl, eh? It's not cricket.

Selling off a prized possession? What a crappy thing to do to your partner. Who would do that to someone you supposedly loved just to pay off a debt of your ADULT kid. That would be unforgivable, not for the missing item but certainly for the utter disregard and disrespect.

£50 says the twist is that she's pregnant and that's why she did something so silly - it was the hormones making her crazy.

Out of the blue, Andrea's daughter needs money to pay off debts and Andrea has to respond immediately. Might have been more plausible if the daughter needed an operation which had to be paid for.

I think Humpty Dumpty's point is really good and it also serves as a reminder that, while everyone loves to hate didactic storylines about social issues, storylines that reflect the economic realities of individual characters are both interesting and believable. IMO it would have been better to lead up to this outcome between Lloyd and Andrea gradually, developing a whole narrative of Andrea's tight finances, her daughter's dodgy health, rather than just drop it in as a piecemeal act of betrayal. I think it's this staccato, ungrounded quality that has viewers so frustrated.

In Friday's episode, Cathy took a paper note out of her purse and put it in the donation box at the museum. That was nice, but disconnected from the story of the bailiffs or anything else about her economic circumstances. We're all confused about the monetary transactions between Steve, Liz, and Tony. No one can understand how Carla makes a profit, no less has enough left over to blow in Vegas. It would be really great if the writers generated a spreadsheet for each character's income, then wrote stories that reflected that reality. We might even believe them. - ELK

Another character ruined by a personality transplant so they can write them out. And if Jess's father, Neil, makes really good money working overseas why couldn't she just call him? You don't have to be in the same country to transfer money. She must realize her mother doesn't have a lot of money.
