William Roache, who plays Coronation Street's Ken Barlow, starts filming in the next two weeks, five months after being cleared of rape and indecent assault.
William has been off screens since his arrest last May but was found not guilty of two rapes and four indecent assaults in February. He will resume filming in the next two weeks, with the scenes due to reach screens in August, says the BBC.
In Corrie, we've been told that Ken's away visiting grandson Adam in Canada. When he comes back, Ken will take Deirdre off on holiday, producer Stuart Blackburn said.
"I can't wait to see Bill back on screen," he said. "I'm going to give Ken and Deirdre a little holiday - a caravan in North Wales. What could possibly go wrong? Ken raises the idea of going on holiday and she's busy scanning the papers for places in Monaco or Barbados, something like that. Then he pulls up in a hired caravan going, 'Let's go to North Wales!'"

Great news - a Corrie legend back on our screens and bickering with Deirdre as well!
So....because Ken was "away", now that he has returned they find a USE for our Deidre?? WHat an insult to her. She is brilliant, funny, but overlooked talent. :((
I prefer Deirdre without Ken.
Bev
Oh goody, a plot with hilarious consequences. Not looking forward to Ken's return and only hope Deirdre can maintain her new personality.
Who has said that Deirdre has been overlooked and a "use" has now been found for her? I can't see that quote.
Should make for a few laughs..them both stuck travelling around in a caravan..wait..didn't Mary and Norris do the same thing? Was it funny? No. Neither will this be I'm afraid. I too like Deidre better sans Ken. Maybe Deidre will finally get rid of Ken and bury him on the moors and just tell everyone he went back to Canada.
Maybe I'll make a cameo! ;)
GREAT to see Ken back..should be a fun trip for the couple!
I think Deidre is far funnier and a 'better' character without Ken.
This may seem like a funny scenario for SB but in all honesty to those of us who know Ken isn't he more a B&B man than a caravan man? And wouldn't visiting Wordsworth country in the Lake District more Ken's thing than North Wales (nothing against North Wales!). Seems it's something that they've concocted to be Ken's thing just to give him a story.
However I should reserve judgement I guess and see what pearls SB has in store for us :)
NOOOOO Deirdre is so much funnier alone!!
@Llifon, first he's going to get a great deal on a flight from Canada to Manchester and ends up landing in New Hampshire. I'll take him for a night on the town or WalMart or sumthing, get him to Boston for that other Manchester, then he's all yours. ;)
(this really happens once a year or so, btw)
It turns out that the same time as Ken and Deirdre are in North Wales, Stephanie Beecham has parked her houseboat in a canal next to the caravan. Ken realizes he is much happier with her and Deirdre agrees. Stephanie and Ken sail merrily into the sunset and we all live happily ever after.
The greedy old relic has huge legal bills to pay, so we're stuck watching him attempt to be "funny" in Wales. Oh, joy! I hope they come up with a story line where Dierdre realizes she was much more content on her own and leaves Ken to live "happily alone".
NOT looking forward to seeing clunky old Ken back, hasnt been missed one iota. Dierdre was a great character without him - where is she by the way? But it was not exploited - she could have worked in the gym for instance and it could have been funny instead of downright irritating with Ghastly Gail.
Frosty, what DO you like about the programme?
I am no Ken fan but the show will NEVER get rid of him, he has a job for life.
Deidre IS much better without him and I hope she does not lose her. new found Blanche style edge.
The thought of "hilarous consequences" always makes me shudder, better a quiet, dignified return and re-establish the character on the Street.
I have to agree with you Muriel Ducks...
Unfortunately there are a few "untouchables" on the programme that are stale, exhausted and frankly embarrasing these days. Why they have been promised a job for life I really have no idea, I thought jobs for life ended with the Dockers in the 1970s.
I haven't missed Ken but it's too bad he's not been here to add to Peter's storyline. It might have turned out differently if his father was there to anchor him a bit more.
If Peter is arrested for Tina's murder,it wouldn't make sense to me for Ken to take off on holiday while his son is accused of murder.Surely he would want to stay and support his son?
Why should he start supporting his son now after all this time? Lousy father, poor husband, mediocre lover (they all leave him), unable to keep a job for too long.
L.O.S.E.R. character with tenure (aka legend).
I live in Canada and ran into Ken in the shops the other day. He said Adam was doing much better so I'm not surprised he'll be going home soon. He didn't appear to know anything about Peter's affair and I didn't have the heart to tell him.
I also prefer Deirdre on her own and hope that Ken will have an affair that takes him away from her permanently. I didn't even realize he's been off our screens for that long!
It doesn't seem to be very logical that nearly 80 year old Ken would enjoy caravan camping. I agree, he's definitely the B&B type of person.
I Bet they will use somewhere really chavvy and rubbish (like Rhyl or Prestatyn) why do they not film in Gwynedd? Much better than lake district - and if its good enough for William Roach to have his holiday home here then it's good enough to use as a Corrie storlyline! Everyone in England assume that North Wales is shittt* like Rhyl
Glad to see him go, never missed him and sorry they didn't make use of Deidre more, she gives more laughs. She would have been a better person to put in the gym or bistro, has a more even temperment than crabby Gail. Ken should move to Austrailia, see a cousin he hasn't seen for some time.
Just get rid of him
