Stephanie Cole takes Corrie break due to ill-health

Sad news reaches us today from Coronation Street where Stephanie Cole, who plays the wonderful Syvlia Goodwin, is taking a break from the show because of ill-health.

Corrie's senior publicity manager confirmed yesterday that Stephanie has left the show "for the time being".

It's not the first time Stephanie has taken a break from the soap because of ill-health and let's hope she'll be back on our screens very soon indeed.  We all wish her a very speedy recovery.

That's terrible news, I hope she'll be ok. Stephanie is superb in Corrie so I hope we see her back there soon.

Oh dear, I do hope Stephanie is okay and recovers quickly. This comes at a very bad time for the Street, given that Sylvia is integral to a key current story arc that will play out for the rest of the year. I dare say the plot will now focus more closely instead on just Roy and Hayley and how they face The end of Hayley's time.

Oh no! Get well soon Stephanie. Sylvia has become one of my favourites, she works so well with Roy and Hayley. Lets hope she's back to good health very very soon.

Thats going to really affect the current storyline. It will be difficult with just roy on his own. They will have to pair him up with mary again. She will be there for him, like she was for Dev

Awful news! I wonder how they will write Sylvia out in the middle of Hayley's cancer.

It's always awkward and difficult when the program and reality collide. This time it's also painful.
I hope Ms. Cole recovers quickly, for everyone's sake. She's become indispensable.

I wish Stephanie a speedy recovery. After a shaky start, Sylvia has become a Corrie gem and the interaction with Roy and Hayley is superb. Stephanie's temporary absence is a reminder that story arcs and character development can change instantly and dramatically when reality steps in.

Oh no! She is one of my favourites and this is such a big time for her on the show. I hope her recovery is quick and she is back to the street soon.

Get well soon Stephanie!! I too wonder how this will play out in the Hayley cancer story. Maybe some of the other characters will have to step up. Peter and Carla have been wonderful to Hayley.

She really hasn't been looking that well on screen-tired. I hope she feel better soon. I really didn't warm to her character in the beginning but lately she's been great.

Respect goes out to Stephanie Cole for taking care of her health most importantly ~ as we all want her to be around for a long while yet. Looking forward to seeing her in the near future when she's well enough.

A real shame. The acting of Roy, Hayley and Sylvia has been top notch lately. All best wishes to Stephanie Cole and I hope she'll feel better very soon.

Is Stephanie Cole just taking time off through ill health or is she (according to the wording on Digital Spy) actually leaving ?

Jane - Digital Spy cut and paste a story from The Sun which is a newspaper, as we all know, prone to exaggeration.

We used the quotes from the publicity manager at Coronation Street who said Stephanie Cole's leaving "for the time being" - which is the official line at the moment, until we hear anything more.

Very sorry - a wonderful actress. Stephanie Cole is the best character on TV. I hope they have written her a storyline exit befitting the dignity of this superb character. My favourite by far.

I do wish Stephanie a very speedy recovery. Not only is she a very important and pleasant character on the street, but with Hilary's illness, Roy will need her more than ever. I wasn't fond of her character when she first started but she has become someone so wonderful that I'll miss her each day she's off. Get well soon.

Glad she's taking the break she needs. She has looked tired lately. I've loved her acting since I first discovered her in "Waiting For God." Loved her most in "Doc Martin" :-) It's too bad she has to leave at such a crisis point for Roy & Haley. I think she would have been pivotal for Roy and it would have been interesting to see their relationship perhaps reach a new level of understanding.
