We celebrated his return. We got all misty eyed over his story about his mother, Elsie, and her final days. He's cleaned up, he's off the streets, and he's as cheeky as ever. But, ITV, you need to do something with the character or Philip Lowrie will leave and that will be a crime!
Even the little we do see him on screen since his return shows me that the character still has that old cheek and charm. He's got a history, there are other characters that remember him and he may have a whole new family with the Grimshaws. Do it! Keep him! It'll be worth it!
I've written a blog post with some suggestions for his character over here.

I wholeheartedly agree with you Tvor - a great blog post. If he's only got a 6 month contract, they better do summat fast! He's been in it since May and it's now July and he's barely had a storyline. He has so much potential.
What is wrong with the writers and production team? Story after story with shrieking Sofa or Barmy Becky and yet they have this magnificant character who is doing nowt. Has he even met up with his nemesis Ken? Why hasnt this been explored instead of ridiculous scenes with strippers ruffling his hair? Rita smugly acts like Dennis is her property yet only knew him briefly in the "old days". Did I detect a slight look of panic though when Dennis was asked to expand as to why he was on the street at the auction? Mebbe there is a big story behind it.
Dennis is a great character who has slotted straight back into the Street but they are doing nothing with him. His return was rushed, like almost every other story on the show these days, and he went from being homeless to settled with Rita within a week. Since then they haven't known what to do with him. And why does he have no scenes with Emily? They used to work together back in the day and were good friends and she was obviously pleased to see him back. She is another underused character, and another Corrie legend, so it would give them both more screentime if they shared a story.
Most of the time Dennis is either in the Kabin with Rita and Norris or, when in the pub, he is with Emily as well.
Maybe Dennis is not what he seems hmmmm? A leopard cannot change his spots. He just 'happened' to be in the soup kitchen...Rita just 'happened' to spot him. Summat's up with this character..another con-man perhaps?
I think Dennis is superb and utterly wasted. He seems perfect for a spot of comedy, as well as more dramatic stories. How about Mary makes a play for him to make Norris jealous and Dennis goes along with it to wind him up? Perhaps he could help Ches on his market stall - he'd have all the patter. He needs to do something or Philip Lowrie will leave out of sheer boredom.
I hope his character isn't just part of the flaky charity-scam storyline (i.e. was he in on the con when he made his speech at their fundraiser the other night?).
I'd love to see some scenes with Emily. But it's not that characters like her are 'underused'...the actors just do much fewer episodes a year as they get that old it seems.
