As if the ruination of Carla Connor wasn't enough, we're going to see another two great, strong and feisty Corrie female characters get knocked down to size in the coming weeks.
Leanne Battersby will find out she's pregnant and then fall and lose the baby, says What's on TV.
And Izzy Armstrong is going to get mugged, reports The Daily Star.
Is it any wonder Corrie's ratings are falling, when the very basis of what the show was built on - its strong Northern women - is being undermined by Phil Collinson, the current Coronation Street producer?
Come on, Corrie! Let's have something the fans can enjoy, lets have some flippin' fun! What about another Spanish holiday for the girls of the Street led by Eileen, Deirdre and Gail?

Well "strong" has now been replaced with "feisty" which is soap speak for just unpleasant and shouty. Where are the ladies of substance that are tough but have hearts of gold like Bet and Hilda? Now we have self obsessed misery moaners like the overhyped Tina Macintyresome. Eileen Derbyshire as Emily is another great actress that moved us to tears with the death of Ramsay but where is she, all we get is Sophie, Sian, Kylie, Becky Fiz, the ghastly Eva and another pointless misery Maria and Kym Marsh as the vain and another shouty one, is to come back as Michelle Connor. The case rests.
I really hate to say this... But I have a feeling that Carla is going to go down exactly the same path as Becky and become completely ruined! And that's coming from a hard-core Carla fan :(
I agree wholeheartedly. Where is the fun? Northern people are naturally funny, some would say its a case of we have to be to live in the North in the first place. I believe Corrie should stop trying to compete with other more serious, gruesome and incredulous soap storylines, and get back to the original successful story lines of the past.
They're trying to be more gritty like eastenders, and its completely ruining the show x
Aaagh! It's that 'feisty' word again! I am soooooooo fed up of rollercoaster post-watershed explosive story lines where feisty superbitches hide dark secrets which shake the very cobbles of the street when the dramatic twist is revealed.
Yawn.
PC and co don't appreciate or understand either the talent or abilities of the actresses they have on Corrie.
The holiday sounds fab, however I feel due to budget restraints it'll never happen, re my comment elsewhere regarding too many episodes each week.
To capture back the "northerness" that people are quite rightly worried about, corrie should consider getting Craig Cash or Victoria Wood on board to advise. There dramas/comedy are littered with the very essence of northern humour, strong women, warmth and strong characters with hints of vulnerability.
Corrie needs to get back to its roots. Early Doors (Craig Cash vehicle and best comedy/drama ever in my opinion) is the ultimate example and you can see elements of Corrie in it.
No shouting, no wasted characters, each beautifully written and each one we are able to care about.
Isn't the key to a strong female character partly how she deals with adversity? Part of Leanne's strength is precisely because she has such a tormented past - drug addict, hooker, criminal. And Carla became much more interesting after Paul died - she was just a bored wife killing time with a baby clothes business.
Elsie Tanner was regularly dragged through the wringer - her disastrous love life was part of her brilliance.
Abortions; miscarriages; muggings; murders; fights; adultery; misery;deception; sneering; assault and battery; theft;unrealistic storylines etc etc. Not the Corrie I know, love or want to see. Get rid of whoever thinks this is a good idea. Now. He is killing it.

puleeze..the more the misery, the higher the ratings. They're after the younger audience. What's with Dreary having to set the table for her own b-day party while the lump known as Tracy just sits there spouting trash? I really want to see Deidre blow up at her and tell her off..just once and I'd be satisfied, but I don't watch it anymore, just go to the blogs for catch-ups and then realize I haven't missed a thing. Too bad. It was a good show but it's really too annoying to watch now.
"puleeze..the more the misery, the higher the ratings" Yeh. That works. (seen the ratings lately?
Elsie Tanner was a brilliant character, I agree with Merseytart, and part of that wonderful character was dealing with Ena Sharples. Why has no-one on a small street like this ripped into Carla for targetting married men - Liam and Peter. Michelle could have done it as she knew about both of them. You really only get to know a character by the way they interact with those around them. At the moment, too many of them seem to operate in a vacuum. Tracey needs a pal to confide in; Kevin likewise, and Nick's only got his mother.
And, finally for now, the Leanne and Stella story might have worked if it had been Leanne coming across old birthday cards in Janice's flat. It would have been so much more meaty if Leanne was torn about whether to find her etc.
i agree why not leave the feisty ones alone-excluding tracey barlow
i know its aobut drama but why another miscarriage another miscarriage of justice and the ongoing boringness that is sian and sophie
im really disappointed with it all altely
I really hope they don't do a Becky on Carla, she's my fave.
