Charles Lawson stars in Blue Hen

Charles Lawson, who played Coronation Street's Jim McDonald, is to star in a new play, produced by the NLP Theatre Company. It's a dark comedy called Blue Hen, described in the publicity as a "gritty, moving story about two men living on the roughest scheme in Coatbridge", and is written by Des Dillon.

As far as I can tell from the publicity, it seems only to be touring Scotland, kicking off in Glasgow Citizen's Theatre on 8th May, and ending up in Stranraer on 12th June.

This sounds like an interesting night out and I hope to manage along to see Charles "in the flesh"; looking forward to it, especially since, from the photo, it looks like he will be pretty much at full throttle! Great to see a well-known, quality actor starring in a small-ish production touring tiny venues as well as the biggies.

Watch Charles Lawson speaking about The Blue Hen.

Des Dillon is a graet writer, his book "My Epileptic Lurcher" had me in tears.

Seapenguin - why not see if you can interview him after you've see the show?! ;-)

Yes, bit of a scary thought but I might look into that - as long as he puts the cleaver down?!

From what I read in the press Charles Lawson is not that much different from Jim McDonald; and therefore not much acting skill was needed to play the role of an aggressive, ignorant drunk. Does anyone know whether this is correct?
