There's a lovely long interview with Betty Driver in The Independent, which is well worth a read.
She reveals that when she turned 85, Sir Ian McKellen (Mel Hutchwright on Coronation Street) went indignantly to the Corrie producers when he discovered that Betty still drove herself to work every day. "He said, 'It's a disgrace, she should have a driver'. Betty's got one now!
And about Bill Kenwright, who played her son, Gordon Clegg, in the show, Betty says: "Ooh, I adore him. He calls me mum, and every Mothers' Day, every Valentine's Day, he sends the biggest flower arrangement you've ever seen, with a card saying, 'To my second mum, who I love'. For 20 years he's done that. What a fine man."
Get well soon, Betty, from all of us fans here at the Coronation Street blog.

It's very difficult to pick a favourite Corrie character, but for me Betty will always be up there. She totally steals every scene she's in. Quality.
Happy bday Betty!
What a terrific interview! I'd love to hang out with her for a few hours and just listen to the old stories. Happy birthday, Betty, and may there be many more!
I adore her - HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR HEART!
