Coronation Street's going to be filmed in high definition from May 31st and as such, the Rovers Return and other parts of the Street set will get a make-over, says The Mirror.
Other changes will see fake garden fences and chimney pots replaced with real ones. Bosses want to ensure the show looks its best when it is added to ITV1's special HD-TV channel J from May 31.
ITV boss Peter Fincham said: "It's fitting that in its golden anniversary year, Coronation Street should enter the era of high definition. Viewers will be able to enjoy a better than ever experience of their favourite soap."

This will likely mean new opening credits, seeing as the old ones look bad enough in SD, in HD they will be terrible
Haha, good idea!
I contacted Corrie, they will be getting new titles :D
does this mean its going to have the filmic look now or will it stay the same on sd?
No, it might look slightly different but it wont have a filmic look like The Bill, it is being done in the True HD format (1080i) meaning it will look the best it can
I think they often try and get that "filmic look" by using a technique called field-removed video, to make something that was shot on videotape look like it was shot on film. Doesn't really work imo, makes the picture look smeary. A filmic look would be all wrong for Corrie anyway, but I'll watch it in HD if I can, although I doubt the new channel will be on freeview. Why's it called J, I wonder?
Oh, and looking forward to new titles!
Hurrah! I had thought that they wouldn't go into HD until they moved the set, and since that doesn't look like it is happening, assumed HD would have to wait.
I bet one or two of the older characters are dreading it. Maybe that's why Rita went on her "cruise", as it did wonders for her skin ;-)
Yeah, she was trying to get HD ready!
thanks guys thats i dont think it would suit the filmic look either
